Since 1923, Yankees are 'batting' .314 in World Series titles
Say what you will about the Yankees, but they are in a class by themselves. By winning 27 of the last 86 World Series matchups, they are, in effect, batting .314 since 1923.

What other team opened the first year in a new stadium with a World Series win? Hint: They are No. 2 in all-time World Series wins behind the Yankees with 10, and they are in the National League.

3. One of the big reasons I no longer watch baseball
when the end is as predictable as baseball, most of the fun is gone.

5. Did you predict the 2008 World Series?
Phillies over Tampa Bay.

2007? Boston over Colorado.

2006? St. Louis over Detroit.

2005? Chicago White Sox over Houston.

2004? Boston over. St. Louis.

2003? Florida over NY Yankees.

8. Uh - no but then I don't really care anymore.
I did take some passing interest in Tampa last year.
Baseball used to be a game that could be played in @ 2 hours - 2.5 at the most. Now that gets you to about the fifth inning. I don't want to watch an hour of baseball and 2 hours of commercials.
Plus the cost of going to a game is so high these days. I really do not care to watch something I can no longer afford to attend.
Games often end about two hours after I go to bed.

4. If only they had a soul.
I was in New York this summer and I did watch a few Yankee games on television (my wife's family are Yankee fans), and I was amazed how stuffy and lifeless the team is presented to the public. No mascot, no quirky fun commercials for the team featuring players doing funny stuff, no cool inventive fan traditions or chants ("Let's Go Yankees!" doesn't count). You saw the Phillies fans and other teams fans in the playoffs waving rally towels, but apparently that's too childish for Yankee fans. For crissakes, they play "God Bless America" in lieu of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the seventh inning stretch. It was all "We're the Yankees and we have 26 (now 27) World Series Titles and we are better than everyone else in every way." That's exactly how it was presented. Even the TV announcers broadcast the game like they had something stuck up their butts and mentioned the Yankees "legacy" every two minutes. Even if I had never been born and raised in Maryland as an Orioles fan, and instead been born and raised in the New York area, I couldn't imagine myself rooting for such a soulless, unfun organization. I'd much rather root for the Mets even if they do suck--at least they have Mr. Met or Mr. Ballhead or whatever the hell he is.

Oh, and the answer to your question would be the Cardinals in 2006.

6. Check out Old Timers' Day if you ever get a chance
Stepdad actually tears up during this annual event. This is a Republican who once worked in the Manhattan DA's office.

Thing is, it's only shown on YES in the Tri-State.

7. I was actually visiting during the Old Timers Day weekend.
Perhaps that was the reason I got the whole Yankees History mastrabutory circle jerk impression from the announcers.

I just thought it was humorous that the big deal about Old Timers Day this year was that Mike Mussina was the starting pitcher. He who brought the Yankees all of zero World Series titles.
