The "Great American Hackathon"
Come Together Nationwide, December 12-13
On the weekend of December 12-13th, we're holding an open, distributed, nationwide hackathon to develop open source applications to open government. The goal is to solve as many open government problems as we can with as many hackathons across the country as possible. We've teamed up with Mozilla, Google, Redhat and Fedora, who will all be working with their developers to make things happen, and we've teamed up with Open Source for America and Code for America —there are opportunities for everyone to make a difference. And we'd love for you to join us.

How To Participate
The most important thing you or your organization can do today is host an event in your office, home, local coffee shop, library or other local public place you find usable. Just find an idea you'd like to work on, and plan an event around it.

Or, if you aren't feeling the organizer spirit, just plan on going to one in your area. Just plug in your zip code and we'll show you some events happening in your area. Or, if you're not feeling social, just join us over the weekend in our IRC chat room during that weekend.

If you want to plan an event, please read our Organizing Guide to help get started.

If you would like to participate, there's a plethora of options on the table for you. Right now, we need organizers-- people to hold events in their area, and to invite their friends to join in on the fun.

Once some events get planned for that weekend, we'll list them here.
