Anybody catch the new "V" tonight? (Spoiler alert)
kind of an interesting take on it - they've been here for years causing worldwide chaos through unnecessary wars and economic meltdowns, which was a clear slap at Bush (and, didn't some folks think it was a knock on Obama beforehand?)

Shocked to find nice guy "Wash" from Serenity (Alan Tudyk) as the turncoat FBI Visitor in disguise and Morris Chestnut as a good alien.

I think Scott Wolf in his role as the shallow newsperson is going to be better than the shallow newsperson from the original V that was their spokesperson.

1. I thought it was decent
Morena Baccarin does the spooky spooky eyes very well. :scared: I'll definitely tune in next week.

2. What about the "universal healthcare" reference?
That could well be a dig at the present push for healthcare reform.

3. well, the rest of the "first world" already has universal healthcare
so, for them, it wouldn't be a change in terms of that - just better technology.

6. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear or I am misunderstanding your response.
What I was asking was could the fact that the aliens were promising 'universal health care" when their clear purpose is evil be meant to influence/back up the idiot GOPers like the tea-baggers and other right wing radicals who think any health care reform is evil. Just as you thought the secret V cells written in the script was a dig on bush, I thought that them writing this reference in the script could also be a dig on universal health care in general. And yes I am aware that the rest of the 'first world' has universal health care and perhaps I am mistaken in thinking that this show was made primarily for an USA audience and we are the ones who are trying to get health care reform to go through our congress, hoping that in the future that we too will have universal health care like the rest of the considered developed countries.

12. Actually I think it was a joke
I suspect ABC is trying to target a large audience and was making a reference to a current hot issue to obtain a chuckle. I know my wife and I took it as such, and I suspect most people did. Of course everyone sees things through their own filters, so everyone may well have a very different response. If youa re asking about intent, I do not suspect ABC was trying to turn off a large percentage of its audience by taking a side in a hot issue like this.

15. Imagine the laugh if they said "Galactic Healthcare" instead
And you're right, it was a joke.

I'm really disappointed about all the talk that a sci-fi show is out to get progressives.

16. That would have been funny
Vs, providing healthcare to everyone, regardless of whether you eat people.

4. So it has both Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk from Firefly/Serenity.
I forgot all about it but I'll watch it online. I did really love Morena Baccarin's long and gorgeous hair on Firefly/Serenity though, don't know how I'll like her in short hair.

9. I thought they pushed the story along as though they were double parked
and didn't have time to wait for the show to develop naturally.
I felt like I'd stepped into a show that had been running for a few weeks already. If I didn't know the story from the original mini-series I wouldn't have followed this at all.
I don't know if I really liked this show or not. I'll catch another episode or two and see what I think then.

10. good comparison
I think I read that they did a re-shoot to condense 6 episodes down to 4 or something like that?

11. It moved a bit fast, but overall I liked it
It seemed like they were rushing it. Aliens are hear, they speak, its six weeks later and they've been here for a long time. That all seemed rushed. But that said, I think it was for a reason. they want to get into the story they have developed, not waste a lot on a back story. I suspect we will learn more of th eback stroy as we move forward.

13. I agree that it moved fast but it didn't detract from the plot
I actually thought they did a pretty damn good job of introducing characters and showing motivations - it seemed like I had just watched a three hour show in one hour, without really losing much.

I didn't even recognize Morena Baccarin as being from Firefly until someone upthread mentioned it. Alan Tudyk was great, glad to see he wasn't a one-off character. Interesting that he's showed up twice now in roles where he is a bad guy posing as a good guy...
