1. Going from your OP, I'm gonna say "Manhunter".

The prequel to "Silence of the Lambs" and every bit as good. It was based upon Harris' book "Red Dragon" and there was an inferior (but still decent) remake which bore the title of the book made in the 90s and starring Ed Norton. But "Manhunter" is a fantastic serial killer movie that had me gnawing at my fingernails.
