35. Reviews were mostly negative
"No one is funny in "Tommy Boy." There are no memorable lines. None of the characters is interesting except for the enigmatic figure played by Rob Lowe, who seems to have wandered over from 'Hamlet.' Judging by the evidence on the screen, the movie got a green light before a usable screenplay had been prepared, with everybody reassuring each other that since they were such funny people, inspiration would overcome them." Roger Ebert

I still enjoyed it.

43. Was that really considered a 'sucky' movie?
I thought it was wildly funny and great. I was in the Army around the time the movie came out and there was no other movie when it came to lines most often repeated. "If you ain't first, you're last."

If you seen it and didn't like it I guess to each is own or whatever the phrase is. There is a reason I don't use it because I don't know it but before I quit Ferrell I'd see that movie. Anyways this a thread of 'sucky' moves that we consider classics :P

Semi-Pro and Stepbrothers were both dreadful... I was desperately looking for something to cheer me up, but I was actually MORE depressed after watching those two. Talledega wasn't any better.

85. I thought Step Brothers was hilarious.
Mostly due to John C. Reilly's inspired performance, but I still laughed my ass off. But yeah, Semi-Pro kinda sucked. My favorite Will Farrel movie to this day remains Anchorman, seems almost written specifically for him. I know that Will Farrel has been in a lot of crap (I didn't bother to see Land of the Lost after hearing the early reviews) and wouldn't see Bewitched either, but occasionally he can be in some very funny stuff.

It's quite brief, but the film is remarkably faithful to it, even if it expands on aspects of it. For instance, the short story doesn't include a half-hour fistfight!

74. oof... just watched them both, and I gotta disagree.
the first one had some real poignancy to it (the scene with Cindy Williams and Ron Howard slow dancing to "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" alone redeems the movie), mixed in with some pretty funny stuff and perfect use of music.

the second one was four bad stories that add up to nothing... possibly worse than the Star Wars prequels.

Yeah, their version of "Little Darlin'" is just too priceless, plus their "songwriting process" stuff was tremendous.

Could have been a great movie if they'd turned down the gig in the middle east and kept struggling as songwriters in NYC.

52. The Oscar (1966)
A star-studded cast tells the story of a sleazy movie star who is unexepectedly nominated for Best Actor. Half of Hollywood was in this epic and it is so corny and overdone that it's worth watching once.

Here's the tagline to give you a taste:

"This is the story of...The Dreamers and The Schemers...The Hustlers and The Hopefuls...The Free-loaders and The Phonies...The Fakers and The Famous...All Fighting for the Highest Possible Award!!"

You think the Nobel Peace Prize is a big deal? The Best Actor Oscar is the "Highest Possible Award!!"

73. One of the greates line-- in any movie, but was in Waterworld, is:
"Oh, Thank God." given the situation the speaker of said line was in.

That poor guy.

Somebody put up a YT tribute to it:

77. Agreed
I admit to enjoying the robbery timed to "Swingin' on a Star" near the start of the movie. And Richard E Grant's scenery chewing is pretty priceless.

If they'd gotten someone besides Danny Aiello, I think that would have been a BIG help. Who? I'm not sure. Just not Joe Mantegna either.

93. The Party Animal(1984)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087889/

the Party Animal is a documentary-style comedy about a sex-starved male, Pondo Sinatra, a 26-year-old college student whom everyone agrees is doomed to die a virgin. Desperate to break what seems to be a cosmic curse, he tries ever more bizarre schemes to seduce one the sexy, scantily-clad women who seem to be everywhere, taunting him and enjoying his misery. Despite his best efforts, however, he is rejected everywhere, even at the local cathouse. When Pondo threatens to kill himself, Studley, his ladykilling best friend, tries to help him in his quest to "get him a little", as does Studley's mentor, a wise old janitor named Elbow. The attempts include: a Cyrano de Bergerac-type seduction whereby Studley tells Pondo what to say to a girl via a remote microphone; sending Pondo to buy elegant new clothes (he goes to the Punk store by mistake and leaves looking like Quasimodo); taking massive quantities of drugs because "girls love drugs"; and using the world's biggest vibrater, the Moby-M5 (the M-5 episode provides a pretext for a scene where two porn store employees discuss strategic arms limitation treaties, using various dildos as props).
After one of these painfully funny dating debacles, Pondo frightens Studley by shouting: I'D SELL MY SOUL FOR A PIECE OF ASS! A nearby goddess (Suzanne Ashley)– a mysterious woman who has been observing Pondo's struggles for some time– hears his cry and cryptically acknowledges it. Some time afterward, Pondo accidentally creates a chemical compound that makes him irresistible to women. At first he revels in his new "party animal" prowess
