I "had" to go to the mall today ... Wow! It was crowded!
I put my son on my calling plan and the closest Verizon place is in a nearby mall. I was truly surprised by how packed that entire mall was. None of the crap that was for sale tempted me in the least, but, I guess it's a good sign for the economy.

Anyone else have any observations about malls/retail? I'm an infrequent shopper (usually go to a thrift store for clothes), so I'm curious. :hi:

1. Ours was packed yesterday.
I go about twice a month, just to get out and walk around. They are already cranking up for Christmas. The workers were putting up the Christmas train ride and starting on the decorations. I'm already getting anxiety attacks over having to go Christmas shopping!!

It was a chilly, rainy day, so I guess people couldn't enjoy Halloween parades. Instead there were families at the mall with their children in costumes. I don't know if the mall merchants were giving out treats, but I didn't see any.

3. It may have been packed but, did you notice if people were
browsing or buying?

5. I couldn't really tell.
We were mostly in the main walking area where the kiosk stores are, and then I bought the kids a Jamba juice, and that was about it.

4. I believe it is because the great 'holiday' season is coming up.
Go in February. No one there. Retail is very seasonal, the largest part in the last 3 months of the year.

6. I think many stores make something like 90 percent of their profits at the very end of the year.
What pressure!

7. I went to a mall in NJ on Saturday, October 24
It was very, very crowded; parking spaces were close to impossible to find. I swore I'd never go back there on a Saturday again.
Maybe things are picking up.
