broken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see
that's why last night and this morning
always look the same to me.

I adore John Prine. Especially his sad songs.
These lyrics are from Souvenirs, one of the best sad songs ever written.

2. He's my favorite wordsmith
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
Of my childhood souvenirs

Hell, he's my favorite musician. I once traveled 400 miles to see him.

3. I got to see him with Steve Goodman once.
That was a fabulous performance.

Tower Theater, Philly. Can't remember the year but definitely early 80's.
