Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes?
Looks like the people who made Tropic Thunder have taken over.

Doyle's spinning in his grave.

1. I think Doyle spun over in his grave when Charleton Heston played Holmes.
It was a TV movie of the non-Doyle play "The Crucifer Of Blood", in which Holmes is shown in his very first scene shooting up cocaine in full view of the audience. Heston wimped out (conservative douchebag...) and portrayed Holmes as agonizing over whether or not to shoot up, and then deciding against. NOT the actions of an addict!...

2. Heston's default acting emotion was angst
It's the one that paid the bills... Other than righteous indignation, he was incapable of doing anything else.

Definitely, not a (Seven percent) solution for Holmes.

3. Downey looks great.
It's the action that looks like shit.

4. Well I imagine Sherlock Holmes must have liked Opium
So I'm sure Downey could play the role just fine.

5. I'm expecting it to be one of those pleasant surprises.
I genuinely like RDJ. He screwed up badly and has come back to a very good career. And he's just plain hot.

6. No way!
Basil Rathbone or Jeremy Brett -- NOT Downey. He's good at some things but I can't imagine this. Who's playing Watson -- Keanu Reeves?

9. I believe Jude Law is playing Watson.
If I'm not mistaken.

7. I thought he did a fine job as Chaplin
Especially as Chaplin in his older years.

8. Actually, I'm looking forward to it. I like RDJ (really liked him in
Air America), he's been very good in many movies.

And I think the movie looks like fun. A different take on Sherlock, not quite so staid. That said, however, I don't think anyone could every top Jeremy Brett's Holmes. Tragic Brett died so young.

10. Mounds and mounds and mounds and mounds of COKE. Sounds like a job for DOWNEY.

That's really Amerigo Vespucci's comment/subject line. I'm just playing games with the time stamp.

I loved all of the Basil Rathbone flicks, and in a few, he was REALLY "edgy"...

so yeah, if you want someone to convincingly play a drug-addicted detective, get Downey. He may know jack shit about the "detective" part, but he certainly knows his way in a snowstorm.

12. If Guy Ritchie doesn't screw the whole thing up, I think it'll be brilliant.
Although I think Ricky Gervais might have done well if they wanted a more lighthearted Sherlock.

14. Seeing the previews for it, it looks like a total abomination. Take out everything good about Holmes
and replace it with explosions, daring, sexual innuendo, and chase scenes.
