I like the ones that make me genuinely feel threatened myself, and that play on internal fears. The Excorcist scared the crap out of me, not because I believe in Saatan but because of the demon's ability to get inside the priest and terrorize him from within. The Ring scared me witless because it left you with that "...and YOU just watched the movie too, so your ass is mine!" Freddy Kreuger didn't scare me for what he was so much as the fact that he came when you slept. I love and hate that kind of scare.

Youse guys? What kind and howcome?

1. C-SPAN live coverage of Congress
Especially when "the Boner" or someone similar has the floor.

2. Monster movies.
Especially big monster movies. They're just too fun.

Ghost or paranormal type movie are almost always my least favorite, though there's good examples of both, The Exorcist being a great one. That's just a scary ass movie. :)

I'm a huge fan of makeup FX and the like, so the over the top gore movies entertain the crap out of me...usually. The ones that do so with a big heaping of tongue in cheek fun, like Planet Terror or Street Trash for instance, are a blast to me. Movies like Hostel or Saw I find tedious. They don't gross me out as I know how 99% of all FX are done, they just bore me to tears. They seem highly cynical, and have no sense of fun (the SyFy monster movies suck for the same reason).

The remake of The Thing from 1982 is the best all around horror movie, in my opinion. It's a monster, it has blood and guts (some of the most amazing FX to this day), and it's highly psychological as the paranoia sets in among the research team. They have no idea who the creature has taken over, and the mistrust is the key to the movie. Horror perfection.

And I can't say enough about zombie movies. I've watched over 30 this year alone. :)

3. I love watching the make-up and effects too. Computer imaging sort of troubles me in that regard.
I've seen kids in therapy who were terrified of monsters and we'd get good results by studying Tom Savini (these were big kids) and Ray Harryhausen and the special effects masters. Gave me a lot of respect for the movie magic!

5. Psychological
Psycho doesn't get to me as much as The Haunting (1963 version) but it still has its moments. Anything that gets my imagination going instead of spoon-feeding it is better than all the gore and monsters put together.

Even though it's not horror, just the scene in Bladerunner where Deckard is getting his fingers broken still creeps me out as you never see it, just hear it :scared:

6. Psychological thriller...ghost stories...vampires....

Slasher movies just gross me out and bum me out. Killing as entertainment. Torture as entertainment.

I don't like it.

7. Ghosties haunting a house.

I don't like things like slasher movies. I don't want to watch anything gory that has any chance of actually happening in real life.

ETA: I'm not discounting hauntings, I'm just saying I don't like actual physical violence. It happens in real life all too often.

The blood and guts ones don't do a thing for me.
