Where is the dividing line between Oldies and Classic Rock?
It there a definitive line or is it one of those things where some Oldies can be Classic Rock, but not all Classic Rock is Oldies?

1. The British Invasion is the musical line.
After that everything changed.

2. I would think about '67 on is classic rock.
Still some 50's and 60's artists making music after that, but that music would still be considered oldies.

9. I agree about Oldies
I think classic rock essentially began and ended with the Beatles. With a few exceptions, '70s and later stuff seems to be a different breed altogether.

4. I never even hear the word 'oldies' use any more.
Are there still any oldies radio stations? A station around here that used to be an oldies station now does 60s, 70s and 80s.

7. There's also a bit of a stylistic divide
British Invasion is a pretty good general line, but Oldies stations play lots of stuff after that like novelty hits, girl group, Motown (and other R&B), and other pop music, whereas Classic Rock tends more to the rock-oriented music.

10. If it is before 1977, it is a golden oldie.
From there to 1997 is classic rock. Everything else is adult contemporary.

13. Maybe 'Oldies' are songs you haven't...
heard in awhile and are jazzed to hear again. 'Classics' are the
songs that the radio programmers want you to hear..maybe over and over, again.

14. The line is ever-moving. I've heard Pearl Jam and Guns n' Roses on classic rock stations recently...

while "oldies" stations have almost completely abandoned the 1950s and early 1960s, and now play post-British invasion stuff.

On edit: Of course, I can only speak for the stations in my area. Your own may vary. :)

15. Same here. The oldies demographic is slowly dying out, so the stations
move upward in musical time to tap into the widest base possible.

This only applies to over the airwaves stations, though. Satellite radio still has golden oldies options.
