1. Depends on size and weight of package.

2. My dear Bertha!
Well, it depends.

Is it for second-day air, or first class?

Then I'd say it's not too much...

Otherwise...it's too much!

:hi:

3. I ordered something from Land's End and looked online for coupons
I found a coupon online, entered the coupon pin and number on my order and got the shipping, which was $8.95, waived.

4. Jeez - how about $7.25 (for FedEx Ground) on a $7.99 item?
Where FedEx Ground is the least expensive shipping option. :eyes:

7. Sounds about right for Fedex rates.
You don't get that 44 cent USPS rate on Fedex or the other shippers.

It's not about how much the item costs, it all depends on size of package, weight and distance.

11. it's hard to mail or UPS anything substantial for under $8 it seems
unless it can go USPS "media mail" where you might get by under $4

But they have to provide a box and maybe packing stuff, pull it off the shelf, pack it, address it, and get it to the shipper.

They could bury the shipping cost in the price of the item if you prefer.

What IS this item, if I can be so bold as to ask?

5. That's the catch when it comes to online orders
I have canceled many an order, where my "bargain" was torpedoed by the shipping charges.

8. depends on the item
and if it's Amazon or someplace like that, there might be a "free shipping" offer once you place an order of a specific amount. I think it's still $25 on Amazon.

Also, if you go to your local retailer, presuming you can find one who even carries this item, the price will probably be higher, you'll get stuck with sales tax, and you'll have to spend time and money to get there and back.

$7.94 isn't great, but convenience is worth something, too.

10. Yes, buy the item from a local store
If the item is unavailable from a local store then it's not too much to pay since they're providing you with a valuable service.

16. I appreciate the sentiment, and you have a good point.
For this item, I'd be supporting Lowe's or Home Depot.
