It's GREAT when you're broke and you don't think you have anything
to eat, but then you discover that through creativity, you can get some good food going! Sitness: an old chicken breast in the freezer and some cheap potatoes I bought at WalMart!

1. It is
it's akin to finding 5 dollars in a pocket in the closet.

3. Cream of mushroom, tuna, and seasoned salt.
If you have rice, it makes it all the better.

4. bless your heart, friend
We'll get through this. I wish I could feed everyone on DU that's hungry or food insecure tonight. It hurts my heart to think about the misery in the land.

5. Yes! Me last week! I found some not quite past-it goat cheese
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 02:31 AM by K8-EEE
mixed it with a can of stewed tomatoes & pasta & frozen broccoli, I was such a happy camper. This week we finally got a lot of long-awaited paychecks in and feel like living large, even picked up some Thai takeout! But often i am where you were tonight and it is really nice to find forgotten food (or forgotten money -- the $5 in the pants pocket!)

6. I can understand that feeling...
One of the most memorable broke moments I had was in late 99...I was broke as all hell, all ready drove a few of my best friends to the edge of them lending me money...I hadn't eaten for 2 days, no cigs, nothing...

I was going through my cd collection getting ready to start pawning stuff off big time, and I find a 50$ bill behind one of my cds....the feeling I had then was so, enormous, I cannot begin to explain how happy I was.

I had some good McD's and got me some cheap cigs, and got some food for the next 10 days....

I had another very bad broke moment in very late 99 where I lived off a 50lb back of Krusteaz pancake batter, and eventually I got so desperate I couldn't afford butter/syrup and I was using every condiment I had, ketchup/mustad/relish/ranch on my pancakes...and after that experience I cannot stand pancakes anymore...I ate them for months.

7. I've become an expert on budget cooking through being completely broke myself.
It does fuel the creativity, doesn't it?
