1. thanks for this--and for turning me on to Keen's great original version too

just saw the drummer on this video last Saturday night in Albq, at the El Rey Theater in a reunion of his old Albq/Lubbock /Austin ( but mainly Albq) band, The Planets. BTW, did you notice the comments on you tube? Some guy says he's old enough to remember Joe in Buddy Holley's band . Good to see someone whose memory is more shot than mine; Joe was eleven years old when Buddy was killed...

3. I almost mentioned that too-- had never known he'd sang on Should I Stay...

till I saw it on Wiki today, and thought I knew every bit of Ely trivia...obviously not... Knew of his association with them including being mentioned on a Clash song (having a senior moment/brain fart and can't remember which song) and have lots of bootleg Ely stuff from one of my several friends that used to work for him mainly in the 80's, including one with he and Springsteen onstage together ( I think doing Cool Rockin Loretta). Embarrassingly, I dropped that CD and stumbled picking it up, stepped on it and mangled it pretty much. I could get a another copy but would have to endure my buddy laughing at my general klutziness... But yeah, The Clash became fans of his back when there was a Clash, and worked together. As a huge Clash fan ( 2nd only to the E Street Band in my personal pantheon of greatest bands ever), who has some personal connection to some former members of the greater Ely organization ( again mainly 80's era Ely Band), I find that fact to be incredibly cool ....on edit, hey , if you and your wife ( I believe I remember you mentioning somewhere that you're married) ever get to Albuquerque for a night of musical carousing, I play a reunion show of an old band of mine every December; also at the El Rey downtown . I don't really do much with them anymore, just mainly backup vocals( I'm barely on camera the entire video I'm gonna post), with one or 2 lead vocals and a harp solo or 2, but it's a great band. This year's is on Dec. 12th. I'm gonna post that in the NM forum in early December too. One of the 3 women singers, in fact the one singing Just One Look on what I'm about to post from youtube, was also the singer for the Planets, who I mentioned that Joe's drummer in the video you posted also was in. I think there also may be a video of them at the reunion show by now...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-tvr5rAu28---forgot about this one, with Davis on drums... from '84, shortly before he joined Ely ; medley including Ely's Must Notta Gotta Lotta, sung by another old Lubbock friend of Joe's , Joe Don Davidson , who passed away this past April

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZoQHwBv9zo---reunion show, but after the original drummer took over from Davis for a few songs, and Joe Don's son on guitar

No wife, lot's of old girlfriends, but no marriage yet. We should try to get together, I'd really enjoy that.

Those links aren't working...

5. I was hoping you tube had fixed whatever has been going on
Edited on Sat Oct-10-09 09:16 PM by abq e streeter
I've been having trouble getting you tube links to work, but today for the first time in weeks everything worked OK.Problem must be working its way up north ( although I remember Roon, who's in Denver , said he'd been having problems with it too, and for that matter, it was on a thread about having trouble with you tube that was started by a DUer who I think is in Florida or somewhere in the east...) Hopefully the links will work for you after a few tries ,if you give a damn enough to try a few times; no big deal if you don't; that's what had been happening with me; a particular video didn't play and then maybe 3 tries later , or on the next day etc, it'd work, then wouldn't again....Also, I must have mixed (no pun intended) you up with someone else on DU that I remember just recently saying something about having relocated with their wife and kids....Man, I know about the ex-gf thing too; hard to go anywhere around here without running into one; luckily ,I'm actually on good terms with most of em; it's running into one night stands that I never called again etc that make me remember what a creep I used to be sometimes............ feel free to PM me any time you're going to be in Albq.

edit: did you try the top one? worked just fine, and just realized I wrote words too close to the link and the url got interpreted as containing those words..
