Director Michael Bay used his official website to announce a July 1, 2011 release date for Transformers 3, stating that he met with ILM staff to talk about the visual effects and is about to fly out to Hasbro with writer Ehren Kruger to discuss new characters.

He writes: "P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your doctor to determine if this is right for you."
The first of Bay's Transformers films earned $319 million domestically, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen only did better, garnering $401.7 in its domestic run, despite scathing reviews from critics. Bay had talked about doing a smaller project between Transformers 2 and 3, but it appears that 3 is already shaping up to be his next project.
