Los Angeles Dodgers: 2009 NL West Division Champions
:bounce: :toast:

Dodgers clinch NL West with 5-0 win over Rockies
By JOE RESNICK (AP) – 24 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers' magic number for clinching the NL West is down to zero — finally.

After a season-worst five-game losing streak, they came through with one game left in the regular season and beat the stubborn Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Saturday night with a five-run seventh triggered by an RBI single from pinch-hitters Ronnie Belliard and an RBI double by Mark Loretta and six scoreless innings by 21-year-old lefty Clayton Kershaw.

Los Angeles' second straight division title wasn't as easy to secure as it appeared to be last weekend, when it held a six-game lead with seven games remaining. The Rockies, who were 15 1/2 games behind the Dodgers on June 3, entered this three-game series having to sweep to win their first division title in the franchise's 17-year history.

"We were some of those people who didn't think it came soon enough," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "We were on the brink last Sunday against Pittsburgh."

1. You got away with it - remember that.

If it wasn't for DeLaRosa getting hurt in the 4th, we'd be in the middle of the 11th by now, trying to outduel each other.

You may be NL West Champs, but don't count on holding on to it next year.

Rockies will capture the crown again, and kick the Yanks butt in the World Series (my wife is a BIG Yanks fan)

5. Oh boohoo
You were the one who predicted the Cockies would sweep the Dodgers up in Denver a few weeks back. Didn't pan out that way, did it?

Your baseball prediction skills are zero.

Indeed.

If and when the Giants acquire some offense -- any offense at all -- you're both toast! ;-P

3. One of the fun things about living in LA was watching the whining and crying whenever
they collapsed in the playoffs or WS.

The funnest had to be when Tom Neidenfuhr hung that pitch to Jack Clark.

I think they cried for ten years in LA over that.

Then there was Reggie Jackson.

But baseball sucks these days, since all of its records involve steroid injections. It's sad. I used to love that sport.

17. Yes, next season maybe
since they won't win three against Carpenter/Wainwright/Pineiro.

16. One word: Ewwwwwwwwwwww.
If the Los Angeles Angels of the 405 Freeway were to win such a tussle, they would again make a mockery of the National Pastime by having their victory parade in an amusement park. :puke:

22. No longer owned by Disney.
If that's your only justification against this - just remember Nick Adenhart and you'll see they actually have motivation to win it all this year.

Both the Lakers and Dodgers won it all that year. So why not again? :-D

Technically an Angels fan here (I was born in Anaheim) but I am always glad to see an LA team do well.

Go Dodgers!

26. Congrats to the Dodgers
I'm a Rockies fan myself and I was pulling for them but I never expected them to take the division and focusing real hard on the Wild Card since the All-Star break. At least they did and now in the playoffs so they can do it. I'd wish the Dodgers good luck considering you're fan but my team plays in the same league as well. :toast:

29. I am admittedly nervous about that
The Cards had a 5-2 record against the Dodgers this season. I think they are the toughest opponent we could face in the entire NL race. Our pitching needs to shut down Pujols, and that's a tough proposition.

30. The Cardinals are playing like shit here at the end of the season
The offense is spotty at best, and LaRussa insists on using Wellemeyer, who couldn't get a t-ball player out. Dodgers in 4, unless St. Louis decides to start hitting again.
