I found the greatest truck stop today
The Road Ranger (affiliated with Pilot) at St. Robert, Missouri, is the greatest truck stop in the United States. I actually parked here yesterday and thought it was a nice place, but this morning it became the greatest truck stop of them all.

It's not because they have a huge parking lot, although they do. Last night they must have had 200 trucks out there.

It's not because the food is good; it's decent but not anything unusual. (It's Subway, which is very common at truck stops, and Chester's Chicken, a brand you'll find in convenience stores.)

And it's definitely not because of any attractions off the truck stop property, because this place is in the middle of Bum Fuck Egypt.

It's because they have HEATED FLOORS IN THE SHOWER ROOMS!

1. It's the little things that make a big difference, isn't it?

3. Pilot seems to have no problem keeping the showers clean
They also do a good job of keeping the lot lizards out. The problem with Pilot is it's all fast food--mostly Subway with a smattering of McDonalds, Wendy's and Taco Bells thrown in. One Pilot I saw has a Steak N Shake, but I've only seen one like that. Would like some White Castle, Krystal, Long John Silvers, hell even a Skyline Chili would be an improvement. You know, a little variety in there.

The best chain truck stops are TAs and Petros, which belong to the same company. People were afraid that when TA bought Petro they were going to turn them all into TA--in fact, they're building more Petros, which have long been driver favorites.

In other truck stop news, Pilot bought Flying J, which will improve Flying J's prospects dramatically since right now, FJ doesn't accept Comdata cards and they will after the merger's complete. Flying J is one of the three chains that offer sit-down dining (TA and Petro are the others), so we're all looking forward to it.

5. I always like the TA's and long ago the '76 Truckstops
Petros are good too. The Iron Skillet makes a really good chicken fried chicken! Yum.

I miss picking up my copy of Roadknight Magazine, do they even publish that anymore?

heh.

There used to be a huge truckstop in Atlanta Georgia called Transport City, it was a fantastic stop with all sorts of amenities. I wonder if it's still there.

4. That sounds Wonderful!
It is too bad you can't get better food too. That would be nice.

Eating the same old stuff at truck stops must get very old. And may all the gods and toothfairys help you if you had a medically, religiously, or ethically restricted diet!
:wow:

Finding food while traveling is definitely a skill.
