I scheduled my colonoscopy this morning.
It will be my third one.

My favorite part is the prep.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

1. I don't know what prep you had before
but I was told the one I had was "new" and that it was "much better" than the old one.

It wasn't a whole gallon, and it really didn't taste so bad.

But being stuck home by the potty is definitely no fun.

2. The first time...
I drank the whole gallon.

The second time, I had the pills and the half gallon.

I would drink that stuff all day if they would let me! :sarcasm:

3. I had the pills and the half-gallon.
Did it this past May. I basically sat in my bathroom for an hour and half, taking the liquid. I got most of it down. That last 8oz refused to stay down, though. I told them as much at the hospital and they were fine with it. No problems, either :)

Oh, I recently read that colon cancer can be tested without the need for a colonoscopy, too. Now they tell us!

10. I did the same thing
that last 8 oz came up faster than anything came out anywhere else

they said it happens...

also, I weigh 100 lbs and they give the same amount to people who weigh 200 lbs

nurse said I had plenty

11. Well, I am over 200 pounds...
;)

I think I should have remembered to go by the timing my doctor recommended, or once every 15 minutes instead of what the kit said, or ever ten minutes. It might make a difference, give your body more time to push that liquid through and absorb the electrolytes.

One thing I don't recommend is any kind of fruit-juice sorbet or popsicles. Stick with filtered juices to stave off the hunger :)

4. Know what's even more fun?
Instead of drinking the gallon of delightful liquid, having it poured down your NG tube

29. The half gallon was not so bad...
The full gallon was an exercise in psyching myself out to finish it.

5. I didn't really care for the prep, but the happy juice was awesome
I had to have a couple of 'scope procedures last year. I always told them before they turned the spigot, "remember: I'll pay extra for extra."

14. Do they put you under where you live?
A big stink a few years ago when Aetna decided they wouldn't pay for anesthesia even though it wasn't really saving them that much money by not covering. Plus the studies showed that less people would get Colonoscopy if they had to stay awake thru THAT party.

16. I was awake during mine and it wasn't bad.
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 09:03 PM by kentauros
There were only a couple of times where it was uncomfortable and that was when the doctor had to "help" the scope around a bend. He basically pushed on my abdomen in a couple of places and that was it. I watched most of it on the screen, so it was pretty cool to me :D

(I did have anesthesia, just not the kind to knock me out...)

20. They give you a twilight drug and an amnesia drug...
I am getting an endoscopy also, so I have to be awake to follow swallowing instructions, but you really do not remember anything, so it is the same as being completely out.

I highly doubt if I would get it done without these drugs. :hi:
