Anybody have any experience with Green AV (computer virus)
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 05:08 PM by soupkitchen
It seems to be a virus masquerading an anti-virus security system. The scam seems to be it holds your computer hostage until you buy the software.

Anybody out there have any experience with this outfit? Or a recommendation on how to flush it out of the computer?

Thanks in advance.

1. Ironically, I encountered just such a malware infection at a soup kitchen
when volunteering there last year. I was under the impression the infection occurred when someone visited a porn site unprotected. Googling produced various lists of tedious fixes, all of which required wandering into system files and deleting certain bad actors, and making a number of registry changes. The infection was a bit ugly, because it randomly changed its own name when it installed itself. After cross-checking the instructions at a number of websites I thought were reputable, I tried the system file and registry changes; IIRC this tamped down the infection considerably, but it still had some presence. I think the final conclusion was that real professional help was needed

2. Thanks. I'm trying a free spyware called Stopzilla
It seems to have taken care of Green Av, but we'll see if I invited in other problems

4. I had a similar virus earlier this year
Because I couldn't access the internet, I downloaded Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org) on another computer, burned it to CD and then installed it on the stricken PC. It got rid of that one.
