I dread seeing rockits extended family this weekend (rant)
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 11:50 AM by La Lioness Priyanka
I avoid republicans. I have no republican friends nor family and I ENJOY this.

Rockit, has an aunt, who is a republican; though who knows why? She is the same one who last year during labor day weekend, told me to vote republican if i want gay marriage.

I know she is going to STALK me down and try to argue politics with me. I mean, i am not entirely opposed to arguing politics with a well read, learned conservative however "arguing" politics rush/glenn beck style is really not my thing. I think of myself as an academic. I actually read about a bill, read about theory, take classes in these things etc. Arguing with people who have no theoretical understand of conservative politics but just spout right wing points, bores and frustrates me.

This healthcare "debate" has renewed my absolute distaste for republicans and I really really do not want to be pulled into this conversation.

Seriously, its a waste of my breath.

1. Take an old T-Shirt and use a LARGE permanent marker...
Write "FUCK POLITICS" in large letters and "If you try to talk to me about politics I will rip your fucking lungs out, grill them, and put them on my socialist veggie burger" in smaller letters under it. Do this on both sides. End of problem.

2. If possible, be near an internet source and research as you converse.

Otherwise I am think it is important to smile and keep your image well managed. Good luck.

11. I mean it is an opportunity to demonstrate the validity of one another's claims.

You don't have to argue the gay marriage point because it is not true and is purely provocative; you move past it in whatever casual way is your style.

My stance would be: political conversations are frustrating for a lot of reasons and the internet can help us articulate our arguments.
the
Scholarly research may be a bit intensive, but casual research can help correct some of the historical and other inaccuracies that often crop up in conversations.

PS: Oh, yes, I believe you should be online during the convo.

5. I love it when Glenn Beck types suggest I'm the one who's ignorant.
Fucking idiots. Ignorant, angry assholes who are proud to be ignorant, angry assholes.

The next time someone asks why I'm a Democrat, I'm going to tell him or her that it's because there is no socialist party.

6. Seriously, just tell her you are not interested in discussing it or hearing about it.
A second warning might be that if you wanted to know Glenn Beck's idiotic, paranoid opinion, you would have gotten it from his TV show.
