There was a time when this song would send me into fits because of what I was feeling for someone I couldn't have.

3. Who could do a better job than Mr. Dylan?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEPbnc4eQ_Y

Louise, she's all right, she's just near
She's delicate and seems like the mirror
But she just makes it all too concise and too clear
That Johanna's not here

I like him. He was a great songwriter with an interesting voice for a while. But I never understood the deification.

39. I'm very fortunate to have gotten to see him perform.
Just once; at the New Mexico State Fair in 1985 or 86, during intermission at the rodeo . ( Not as lame a gig as it sounds; they chose top notch acts for these occasions. I've also seen Charley Pride and Earl Scruggs do the same gig). He had some trouble hitting some of his higher notes that night; probably a reaction to the mile high altitude, but I didn't care...I was watching Roy Orbison sing; whatever notes he missed were inconsequential to me. I also had the incredible honor of jamming, on a small handful of occasions in the early 90's, with the bass player of Roy's old West Texas group, The Teen Kings. Shortly after Roy died, I think it was Spin magazine (?) that published their annual list of notable musical personalities who had passed away in the previous year. After each person's name, they had a sentence or two about who they were, except for Roy. I still remember it just said : Roy Orbison, God.

33. Here are a couple of my favorites

A girl I used to really want but couldn't get, I found out she got married in March. So songs like these really meant something to me. Luckily I am pretty much over that, but I'm never falling in love again if I can stop it. I don't think I can survive that again.

Eric Clapton was deeply in love with a woman, and dating her sister. When her sister heard the song, she broke up with Clapton because she realized he was just using her as a substitute for her sister.

44. "Be Human"
http://video.yahoo.com/watch/392073/2326442

(video edited by me)

I analyze and I verify and I quantify enough
100 percentile no errors no miss
I synchronize and I specialize and I classify so much
Don't worry 'bout dreaming because I don't sleep --

I wish I could at least 30 percent
Maybe 50 for pleasure then skip all the rest

If I only was more human
I would count every single second the rest of my life
If I just could be more human
I'd have so many little babies and maybe a wife

I'd roll around in mud and have lots of fun then when I was done
Build bubblebath towers and swim in the tub
Sand Castles on the beach, frolick in the sea, get a broken knee
Be scared of the dark and I'd sing out of key

Curse when I lost a fight, kiss and reunite, scratch a spider's bite
Be happy with wrinkles I got when I smile
Pet kittens 'till they purred, maybe keep a bird, always keep my word
I'd cry at sad movies and laugh 'till it hurt

I'd buy a big bike, I'd ride by the lake
And I'd have lots of friends and I'd stay out too late

If I could just be more human
I would see every little thing with a gleam in my eye
If only I was more human
I'd embrace every single feeling that came in my life

Would I care and be forgiving?
Would I be sentimental and would I feel loneliness?

Would I doubt and have misgivings?
Would I cause someone sorrow too? Would I know what to do?

Will I cry when its all over?

When I die will I see Heaven?

45. "Famous Blue Raincoat," by Leonard Cohen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiODhEHn530

It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening.

I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record.

Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?

Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train
And you came home without Lili Marlene

And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife.

Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
One more thin gypsy thief
Well I see Jane's awake --

She sends her regards.
And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way.

If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.

Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried.

And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear

Sincerely, L. Cohen

47. "Susan Across The Ocean"- The Silos
Classic:

http://recluseshow.blogspot.com/2007/08/susan-across-ocean-silos.html

I still think about Susan, and all our ups and downs
Never met a woman so resolute, she speaks her mind, stands her ground
Thought we'd go on forever, and I must still be surprised
'Cause I can't forget that sweet look in her eyes
Susan across the ocean
Chose to go so far away
Susan, what does your spirit hide?
That makes me question my life this way
Susan across the ocean
I ain't a slave to nobody
Susan, you don't mean anything
Susan, you're everything to me
I had plans to raise a family; she had plans of her own
Children are so demanding, and she had so much to prove, and places to go
I'm not angry anymore, but it hurts me so bad
When I think of all the sweet times we could have had
Just when you think you know somebody well
When you're completely in love, you can never tell
When it's over
Is it over?
I'm sixty years tomorrow, but I still hold my own
I married a woman whose love I hold, and we had three kids, watched them grow
But when I wake up in the morning, it still hurts me so bad
Because I love this woman beside me,
But I can't help to think about the life I could have had..
