Question about "Inglourious Basterds". (Spoilers)

I was wondering if anyone knew if the "Basterds" intended for their mission into the theater to be a suicide mission? Up until the actual deaths of the two "Basterds" when they were shooting into the crowd there hadn't really been any hints that Operation Kino was intended to be a suicide mission, and there hadn't been any hints throughout the movie that was their mindset.

Did the plan change after the shoot-out in the bar? Or, was that the plan from the outset?

1. I think they knew it would be.

An operation of the type would leave little in the way of escape possibilities, so any group as smart as they were had to have been able to figure out that the theater would be the end of line.

Christoph Waltz as Col. Landa steals the show in that movie, big time. If that isn't worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nod I don't know what is. He blew me away.
