I'm making a cherry cordial.....
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 05:51 PM by arbusto_baboso
And I have the cherries submerged in filtered vodka in a 3-gallon jar at home.

The cherries have been in the vodka long enough that much of the color has started to leech out of them, and into the liquid.

The whole thing resembles a vat of human eyes in a giant jar of blood.

And just in time for Halloween, too!

2. I do the same with peaches and lemons----
for xmas I make limoncello and peach vodka from the stuff I get from pick your own farms.

all you need is a big enough glass jar, fruit, vodka, and time.

I bottle it into old liquor bottles--especially 'fancy ones' and give it at xmas. People love it....

4. How does the peach turn out?
We did a lime cordial last year, and it was scrum-diddly-icious.

Do you filter your vodka? I've found that you can take the cheapest rotgut vodka, put it through a Brita filter 3 to 5 times, and it's virtually indistinguishable from grey Goose.

13. the peach turns out surprisingly well.
It needs no sugar, or other enhancement.

I start with Svedka vodka===reasonably priced and already filtered.

14. Hmmm. Have to try that one someday, then.
In the meantime, the leftover cherries in the freezer will be going into the Flemish Oud Bruin Ale I'll be making in November.

How many jars of cherries and how much vodka do you use?

Edit: I was thinking maraschino cherries instead of fresh. :D Well, that might be good too, ya think?

10. We used 4 lbs of fresh cherries from a produce stand.
Then we covered the whole thing with about 3 liters of vodka and a cup of amontillado sherry.

8. Did you pit the cherries first, or are you going for a slightly bitter undertaste?

11. Pitted. Fruit pits/seeds can leech toxic chemicals into the final product.

and I let her make fun of my slight Texas accent :D

She also likes to imitate Hawaiians and their penchant for saying "no prahblem!" :P
