John Cleese settles divorce with third wife for $19.7 million
His ex is now officially wealthier than he is...

John Cleese isn't laughing about the $19.7M divorce settlement he reached with his third wife - a sum that will leave her richer than the Monty Python star.

"What I find so unfair is that if we both died today, her children would get much more than mine," the Oscar-nominated comedian told London's Daily Telegraph. "At least I will know in future if I go out with a lady they will not be after me for my money."

The settlement stipulates his former wife, Ms Alyce Faye Eichelberger, an American psycohtherapist, will receive $13M in cash and assets including an apartment in New York, a $3.3M home in London's Holland Park, and a half a Santa Barbara beach house, the Telegraph reports.

The agreement will reduce the "Fawlty Towers" star's net worth to $16.5 million, according to London's Sun.

Additionally, Cleese will make yearly payments of $987,000 for the next seven years, the Telegraph reports.

13. Except pre-nups are pretty null/void in England/Wales.
A judge can consider them but the judge doesn't have to. Previously it was worse than that, pre-nups weren't even considered in a divorce case.

8. Wait... so she got more money than he did... AND he has to keep paying alimony?
... I can only assume that Ms. Eichelberger's team of lawyers spent the entire trial giving oral arguments to the judge. Under the bench.

11. she had become accustomed to a certain lifestyle
Cleese's former wife had originally asked for even more cash, alleging her ex was a "world-renowned celebrity" who had allowed her to become accustomed to "being entertained by royalty and dignitaries in castles".

12. his celebrity status? priceless.
Who wouldn't want to entertain John Cleese? Geez.

Fortunately, he retains THAT attraction. She can't have it.

18. I'm tired of the press acting like I should have sympathy for the rich.
"At least I will know in future if I go out with a lady they will not be after me for my money" says the man whose net worth is reduced to $16.5 million.

I'm thinking he'll be able to squeak by. Sure doesn't matter to me if one or the other of the uberwealthy has 16 or 19 million, or how many of their multiple mansions they have to sacrifice.

I'd rather the media cover people with real issues.
