my AC repair company is very late
I woke up much earlier than usual because they were supposed to be here at 7:30 to get started. It is now 9:15. They called about 8 to say say that the truck had a flat tire, and once that was fixed, they still needed to go downtown and pick up the part, then come out here to the burbs to start the job, which itself might take as long as 6 hours.

Now, I feel compelled to point out that the tech who was here for the estimate assured that they would not even call me to set up the appointment until they physically had their hand ON the part. And that I could trust whichever tech they sent out to do the job because the company only hires Christians. Well, evidently the Christians lied, since they set up the appointment without having the part on hand.

This is a "home warranty" repair, so I don't really have a choice of companies -- otherwise I would have sent her packing when she told me that line about only hiring Christians. Is that even legal?

To their credit, somewhat, the tech they sent out for the estimate and who I believe is now 1:45 late is a woman. First female HVAC tech I've met. Now let's see if she can do the job, or if she's just going to "lay hands" on the coil and pray for Gawd's healing power.

1. Sounds like discrimination to me...
You can be sure that any employer who refused to hire Christians would have lawsuits out the wazoo.

Hope you get your AC back soon! :hi:

2. she showed up at 10, and is estimating 4 hours, maybe more
says the rain complicates things, but if they reschedule, it would be at least a week.

Humidity today: 92%

3. It's miserable here in DC, too...
It's not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago; but it feels just as bad because the humidity is higher.

My stepson from Cleveland was visiting over the weekend. He called last night to tell us that when he returned home, the AC was broken. They slept in a hotel. I don't blame them...his wife is pregnant.

Here's looking forward to cooler days! :toast:

4. Mine too and damn am I pissed.
Of course, I haven't called yet. It has been out for two months. I have to clear a path to the unit that a repair man could squeeze through and haven't gotten to it yet.

5. This Christian business malarky...
... the one company I dealt with that wore the Christian label on their sleeve very publically I felt did me a disservice. They gave me an estimate for a vehicle repair; it was an insurance job. They came in lowest but after apparently some "difficulties" the claim on the insurance doubled. In NC, if the claim is under $X dollars (sorry forget the figure) you don't get points added to the insurance. The quote was quite under $X dollars but afterwards the claim was put through for about closer to $3,000 - over the $X threshold. Lo and behold, 3 insurance points came on me, and higher premiums as a result, high enough so that I would have been better off paying this company cash for the repair and not using insurance.

I won't name them but I will not do business with them again. In an odd way the Chrysler bankruptcy has been good for me personally; a dealership that lost its only franchise - Jeep - is still trading but changing their business model from that of a Jeep dealer to an independent Jeep specialist. I get Jeep specialists who don't charge Jeep dealership prices to maintain my Jeep and they now look after my wifes' Town & Country. So far, they got my business and I trust them... and when they were a dealer they were actually fair to us and extremely helpful.
