I will find myself again
When the heat of the moment
Is replaced by the coolness of autumn
When the humidity of a long, hot summer dissipates
And clearer thoughts find more temperate climes
In which to take hold and prevail

I will see myself again
When my own reflection
Is free of the darkness of mirrors
When the way I am seen by others has no hold
And my visage is framed by my own mind’s eye
In the light it once knew and embraced

I will be myself again
When my journey home
Is not a minefield of regret
When I can see the beacon shining in the distance
And my path is not littered by mistakes
I never meant to make

I will embrace myself again
When my self-esteem
Is not open to the highest bidder
When I can appraise my own worth without discount
And my value is based on what I can give
Beyond what I can take

I will have faith in myself again
When my own religion
Includes a modicum of compassion
When I can forgive myself my own trespasses
And my soul is renewed by a loving God
Who still believes in me

I will find myself again
And I will take joy in the discovery
Of who I was, and who I am
And who I can still be

I will find myself again
And I will rise from the ashes
A self-aware Phoenix
Unconcerned with the perspective
Of those who never saw the flames of my destruction
Or the salvation of my flight
