I think I killed three kittens accidentally with my car
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 09:39 PM by SPKrazy
I came home and 3 of our kitties (4 wks old) were dead, I buried them, they were all together which I thought was strange.

Then I thought about the fact that the kitties were all about where my tire would have been when I left for work. I felt and heard nothing and they didn't look squished, but they were stiff and had been dead awhile and I can't think what else would have put them all together and all there.

Very sad about that. The kids think a dog got them and that is what they are going to think.

:(

2. Me too
I feel bad for the kids who lost the kitties, and it capped off a very stressful day with a sick feeling...

7. I can't eat thinking about them
I didn't even know I liked them, I just thought, oh great, now we have kittens to give away, then I saw them and felt heartbroken, when I decided I might have done it, well I've been sick to my stomach since...

6. If they didn't look squished, I can't imagine that you killed them...
Maybe they were sick to begin with. It's possible the mother moved them there, knowing you'd find them. Were there other kittens in the same litter?

10. Better keep an eye on the other three...
Their mom might have moved the sick kitties to keep them away from the others.
It's so sad when kittens die...

9. Could there have been some poison in the garage? Carbon monoxide poisoning?

In any case, my condolences. That is horrible. :(

11. Good questions, the 3 all together
is what made me think that, but don't think carbon monoxide, carport, but poison, or something in the trash they ate?

15. Anti-freeze leak?
Pets can be attracted to coolant because it smells sweet. It's also deadly.

16. don't think so, but some might have spilled out since it is so hot?

13. I'm sorry. :(

I still remember my Syzygy; he loved to hide in balled up cloth. Given the cheap bedding blanket (it's like 100 thread count), I found him curled up and suffocated within... I still feel terrible and always will; such a perfect little parrot he was... not that Scooter or Rusty aren't; Syzygy was more affectionate and loved having his neck scratched, and slept on my outstretched hand and everything... too perfect... I too like wrapping up in sheets and feeling cozy... I still can't fathom how he trapped himself so, but he had.

If there is a bizarre silver lining, he died doing what he liked.

I didn't like it though...

17. An alternate idea
Cars leave tire squishy marks, or so I am vehemently told by those with experience.

But, if they were in the car area, and seemed physically unmarked, could they have decided that some antifreeze or other car chemical was tasty? These things to tend to leak from our cars and puddle on the ground in their vicinity, and they are by and large not animal friendly.

18. I'm so sorry. I don't think you were at fault though.
You would definitely be able to tell if you'd hit them or run them over.

Something else caused their death. Keep an eye on the surviving kittens. They may have picked up a virus or something from other cats in the area. How's Momma cat's health? Has she been checked for FIV or Feline leukemia?

19. If they weren't squished, you didn't run over them.
You would know if you ran over kittens.

20. SP, that's sad no matter if you had anything to do with it.
I hate that you have to deal with it. You'll get over it, I know. Hope the kids are OK too.

22. That's so sad.
Kittens are sweet but fragile. There are lots of reasons that they may have died at that age.

And :hi:. Was just wondering where you were.
