5. How about the largest estuary in the world?
Estuary - mix of salt and freshwater... That would be the Chesapeake Bay...

8. Isn't "freshwater sound" an oxymoron?
I always thought sounds, such as Long Island Sound near which I grew up, were arms of the sea.

15. I had to think it through
One doesn't like to rush into these things. My God, think of the consequences if I'd gotten something wrong, like what state it was in.

Shud-fucking-der.

11. Uh, that's not in Washington State.

It's in North Fucking Carolina. Puget Sound is in Washingfuckington State.

Both are estuaries though. Bodies of saltwater fed by freshwater rivers.

13. It's mildly interesting that there's no consensus about whether the Albemarle is fresh or saltwater
I'm sure if you tested it, you'd find some salt. But wouldn't that be the case with most bodies of water?

How much salt can a body of water contain and still be "fresh" water?

It's not that close to the ocean. The nearest inlet is the Oregon Inlet, which is nowhere near Washingfuckington State.

Besides, "Largest mostly freshwater sound" isn't a very good marketing hook.

12. The "Edmund Fitzgerald" hitting bottom
I bet that was the biggest sound ever heard in fresh water.
