2. I'll never forget one question on the ASVAB I took
"Which one of these objects is a screwdriver?"

A few weeks after I took the test, I got a call from the Navy telling me that I was a prime candidate for the nuclear power field. I asked them if it was because I answered the screwdriver question correctly.

4. That question was a trick question,
here is one of the other items you could have picked that you probably did not notice.

Well I thought it was funny. LOL.

5. Actually, I remember sitting there thinking it WAS a trick question
In addition to a standard screwdriver, they had a picture of a hammer, a wrench, and a pair of pliers. No sonic screwdriver that I could see.

I wonder how many people choose one of the other objects because they're afraid it is a trick.

6. Well I was just joking with the sonic screwdriver,
As far as being afraid something is a trick, that requires fear, and causes second guessing ones own thoughts because of a fear of something being more then it is, while not knowing if it is more then it is.

So doing something out of fear of a trick is to do something because of unknown fear, and ignoring what one actually thinks because of that unknown fear. Usually its because of loss of confidence caused by previous failures and not from actual perceived events, unless the person is repeating former methods in a similar fashion, then it would be a pattern, and possibly because of lack of trust caused by looking at patterns in similar situations.

I think the last sentence you mention is fear of bait and switch or bait and trap.

In my view, in a baited trap, you take the bait while avoiding the trap, more of a roadrunner against coyote thing then just avoiding a trap.

There are some symbolic chains of thought that could make a comical argument that one of more of the other items fits a screwdriver, and it might have been a joke from the person making that test, but it would require interpretation, including some interpretations that I do not agree with.
