WTH? Where did all the kitchen and bathroom curtains go?
PUH-LEEZE tell me I don't have to go to Wal-Mart. I've been looking for curtains that will work in my kitchen and bathrooms (short ones, sheer or cotton, in other words), and I cannot find them ANYwhere. Target, JCPenney, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.--nada. Or next to nada. (Not really any good balloon shades either.) I asked at BB&B and they said they only stock a few short curtains and the rest were online, but I couldn't find any good ones there either. All the stores stock are really long, heavy, often dark ones. Suggestions? I checked CountryCurtains.com and might go with them even though it's hard to see their white curtains well (washed-out pics). I just can't believe nobody stocks lightweight, short curtains anymore. Makes me miss Linens & Things. :banghead:

2. Hm. Don't have Alco, but
you've given me an idea. I'd forgotten about Tuesday Morning, one of those small outlet stores that gets new stuff in every week. I think I'll check that out. So thanks! :hi:

3. Change in styles
I also noticed that a few years ago.
I think most people go for blinds or shades only. That's what I finally did. Cleaner and more modern look, IMHO.

7. Yeah, I figured as much
But with a 140-year-old house, the modern stuff just doesn't work. I may keep looking for baloon shades--they seem to "fit" the age of the house.

14. I understand
I know you said no to sewing but I once made curtains, about 25 years ago. (Me? HaHa -- I'm about as domesticated as a cat)
I don't know whether they still make it but there was something called pleater tape. You would sew this tape straight across the top of the curtain's back. The tape had slots on it so you put three prong hooks through the tape, which made nice little pleats across the top.
As for the fabric, I used sheets. Man, it was so easy.

16. My mother just bought balloon shades in Target. Also, try looking
at Domestications.com or request their catalog. They seem to offer many traditional styles.

Good luck!

4. If you're the least bit handy and have a sewing machine it's pretty easy to make some.

The advantage is that you can pick a fabric that YOU like and make them exactly the length that you want.

Cafe curtains do seem to have disappeared from most stores. As others said, it seems to be out of fashion these days.

8. I have been sewing for most of my life
so it is the obvious alternative. But I say NO WAY IN HELL!

I have sewed curtains before, but I'm trying to simplify my life and lighten my schedule, and wrestling with fabric is NOT on the agenda. It's tough to not do it, though...

5. I found mine at Lowe's
They had a pretty decent selection and I had a gift card, so it worked out for me. Maybe give them a try?

6. K-Mart
If that doesn't work, try online. Don't lower yourself to WalMart.

15. K-Mart across from Eastview is still open.
Probably not for much longer when the Super Suckmart is finished over there.

10. Try here...
http://www.countrycurtains.com/

Many are made in the USA too. That's how I found them, I try to buy "made in USA" as much as possible.

12. Yeppers, bookmarked last night!
The white curtains are hard to see on the site, but I might take a chance. I got a really good balloon shade from them a few years ago--I like their stuff. :hi:
