My friend's companion, Lily, is very sick right now. I don't have my friend's permission to post this, or to even ask you for your good wishes, but I know how distraught I would be if I were faced with losing The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger -- how profoundly sad I would be to contemplate him feeling pain and losing quality of life. I've been fortunate to have been loved in this life by a great many creatures, but there's something very pure about the love of a companion like Lily or Ginger.

Inarticulate speech of the heart and all, y'all, but if you've got a good thought to send for Lily, please do join me in lighting a candle, sending a prayer, eeking out a good vibe for Lily and her human.

Remember last year when Stewart nearly bled to death from his bladder and needed transfusions? And then they said he had cancer and wouldn't live long? Remember how he DIDN'T have cancer and recovered 100% from all that surgery and near-deathness? Stewie is especially sending healing spleen!

35. UPDATE

Again, a thank you to those who responded. :hug:

The ultrasound showed some abnormalities, but nothing that looked like cancer. Distended and sludgy gall bladder (this was the abnormality near her liver), but no blockage or impaired liver function. There is a small growth on her spleen, but not big enough to cause huge problems yet.

There is a substantial thickening of her stomach where it empties into the small intestine, but it is not consistent with a tumor. It is probably inflammation from a gastric ulcer, and this would cause all of the bleeding she has been having.

She is not eating today, and she is not going to the bathroom. The vet said not to worry about her going to the bathroom...she is more concerned with her loss of appetite. I picked up some special food from the vet that should stimulate her to eat.

If her symptoms do not subside in a few days, the vet will want to do an exploratory scope, which I will agree to.

If that does not show anything, she suggests exploratory abdominal surgery. I will probably not agree to that since I do not want her to go through that.

I am hoping I can get her to eat soon, because she can hardly move, and her eyes turn very dull. I did get her to eat a little yesterday, and she perked up, but today...

44. UPDATE!!! With picture.

Well, you kind people, I think that all of your good energy has been working, and I thank you all very much. :hug:

She has eaten two full meals of the A/D dog food given to me by the vet. This food is formulated to stimulate their appetite, and it really has.

She has gone to the bathroom once, and it was semi-normal.

She is not out of the woods yet, but it appears that her internal bleeding is at least slowing down. Since the vet is fairly certain that it is not cancer, the most probable cause is a bad bleeding gastric ulcer. she is on 3 medications for that.

This dog is selfish, and stand-offish, and I do not what I would do without her. The vet has phoned me twice a day to check on her. I am back to joking with the vet about how Lily is like Linda Blair...she is so evil that she can puke pea soup and spin her head around 360 degrees. I also call her the dog with the thousand dollar ass...because she gets abscesses that cost me $1,000 in vet bills. But, I would do anything for this dog, as long as it did not mean she had to suffer. Further updates to follow.

This improvement may be temporary, but I have a pretty good feeling. She will be heavily medicated for the next few days.
