The Carton Family is losing its kitty today.
No, Admiral, our 16-pound brown tabby isn't sick, or being put down, he is going to live with relatives. We will be moving into Family Student Housing on campus in a few months, and they don't allow animals. (This is actually a good thing for us, while the units are small, it represents about a $500 drop in rent for us, which in these times is a good thing.) Admiral will be going to live with my grandparents, who have been without a cat for a few years, and my Grandmother misses having one around the house. I know he will be happier there, the food will be better, the home will be nicer, there will be no toddler chasing him around all over the place. But we will miss him. We got him from a shelter as a kitten when Mrs. Carton and I had only been married a little over a year. He would keep Lucie or I company while the other was away at work. He got so big, it was almost incredible. Lucie will miss him terribly, and I will miss him too. Baby Carton will also miss him, though in that case I think it's for the best, Admiral was an endless source of fascination (and scratches) for her, at an age where interest in cats usually means teasing.

1. A sad day, no doubt.
I'm happy for you, though, in the bettering of your living arrangements. Good luck.

3. No, my grandparents live in a nice condo.
He'll probably get tuna on demand. We will be losing 300 square feet, for a $500 deduction in rent. (Apartments are stupid-expensive in Riverside.)

7. That was the name the shelter gave him.
All the kittens in his litter were given names that started with A Armani, Avril, etc...
