1. That's Mr. Loaf to you
Seriesly, the New York Times, salvishly following its stylebook, calls him "Mr. Loaf" on second reference!

3. Because Meat is his first name
they'd call you "Mr. Q", not "Mr. Deja".

P.S. Get your mind out of the gutter!!!

4. Hard to say. I've never heard it used in the service of a decent song,..
...just bloated, histrionic crap.

That song deserves to be poisoned, shot, hung and sunk at the bottom of the ocean, dredged up and beaten then shot out into space with a warning beacon to all innocent life forces that the sludge of the universe might scorch a millimeter of their own galaxies!

Just not a fan. :(

6. That song was responsible for the sinking of Atlantis, killing millions of innocent people
I'm sure that more self-indulgently histrionic songs have received as much airplay, but right now I can't think of any.

13. Yeah, I loved it, too.
Rock should be histrionic. I hate all this namby-pamby nonsense that tries to be slow and moody.

12. Those are weak cases, even though I give him a slight edge. But this is why.
I think Freddie was a better singer than Meat Loaf, but it was really close. Mercury was a little sloppy, and weak on some of his notes--you can hear that in your first choice where he comes up just short on a few. Listen to the end of the Meat Loaf clip--he's perfect on his highs.

Where I think Freddie was better was in his interpretation. Meat Loaf got a little lazy and didn't do much until he hit the highs or hit a strong patch in the song.

Here's the kind of thing that makes me pick Mercury over Mr. Loaf. You can see the ease of his vocals, his interpretation of the song rather than his memorizing the notes. But it's not as clear a win for me as it is for others.

10. I was thinking yesterday that he was on the short list for that argument.
Him and Freddie (my normal choice). Maybe Grace Slick and Robert Plant.

Meat Loaf's early voice was better, though. His first round with Jim Steinman. He still had a great voice by Bat II, but I think he had lost something.

11. Met him once
He performed downtown one night in the dead cold of winter. After the show we were in the lobby of the hotel he was staying in and saw him and his entourage go up to his room.
