You took your love away from me...........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtXQ31F1A-k

"Ue o Muite Arukou"

Ue o muite arukou
Namida ga kobore nai you ni
Omoidasu haru no hi
Hitoribotchi no yoru.

Ue o muite arukou
Nijinda hoshi o kazoete
Omoidasu natsu no hi
Hitoribotchi no yoru.

Shiawase wa kumo no ue ni
Shiawase wa sora no ue ni.

Ue o muite arukou
Namida ga kobore nai you ni
Nakinagara aruku
Hitoribotchi no yoru.

Omoidasu aki no hi
Hitoribotchi no yoru.

Kanashimi wa joshi no kage ni
Kanashimi qa tsuki no kage ni.

Ue o muite arukou
Namida ga kobore nai you ni
Nakinagara aruku
Hitoribotchi no yoru
Hitoribotchi no yoru.

It's all because of you
I'm feeling sad and blue
You went away, now my life is just a rainy day
And I love you so
How much you'll never know
You've gone away and left me lonely.

Untouchable memories seem to keep haunting me
Love that's so true
That once turned all my gray skies blue
But you disappeared
Now my eyes are filled with tears
And I'm wishing you were here with me.

Soft with love are my thoughts of you
Now that you're gone I just don't know what to do.

If only you were here
You'd wash away my tears
The sun would shine
And once again you'd be mine all mine

In reality
You and I will never be
You took your love away from me.

If only you were here
You'd wash away my tears
The sun would shine
Once again you'd be mine all mine.

In reality
You and I will never be
Cause you took your love away from me, oh baby
You took your love away from me.

1. I well remember that song (showing my age!)
but had never heard the translation. Thanks for providing that.

2. I love Kyu-chan.
Two pieces of trivia...

1st... The US producers decided to call the song Sukiyaki because they figured that the American buyer would recognize the name. However, it's the equivalent of calling Moon River, Beef Stew! Sigh.

2nd... Kyu Sakamoto died in the plane crash in Japan where the passengers had time to write goodbye notes (I think they circled for about 1/2 hour before crashing into the side of a mountain).

The translation I have is a bit different... I think what you have is the lyrics for one of the English versions and not a direct translation.

This is a translation of the Japanese lyrics.

I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall
Remembering those happy spring days
But tonight I'm all alone

I look up when I walk, counting the stars with tearful eyes
Remembering those happy summer days
But tonight I'm all alone

Happiness lies beyond the clouds
Happiness lies above the sky

I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall
Though my heart is filled with sorrow
For tonight I'm all alone

(whistling)
Remembering those happy autumn days
But tonight I'm all alone

Sadness hides in the shadow of the stars
Sadness lurks in the shadow of the moon

I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall
Though my heart is filled with sorrow
For tonight I'm all alone

Sorry, I've tap danced to this song and made a point of learning the Japanese lyrics.

Thanks for the YouTube link.

3. Yep...you got it. One of my European friends knew Mrs. Sakamoto.
The Producers thought Americans were not "Sharp enough" to pronounce the original title....so they made sure it was a word that every American had heard.

5. I think I learned to whistle to this song
Years ago, I used to whistle this song at work in an endless loop and drove people mad. I didn't even know I was always whistling it until it was brought to my attention.
