A new poem: "The Shell"
I live inside
A shell

Of an older woman
Wrinkles
Saggy places
Silver hair
Trifocals
Lousy joints

But it’s a shell
A carrying case, if you will
The frame for my soul

Inside I’m about 40
Lots of energy
Plenty of love
An agile mind
A smart mouth

That’s the part
He loves

The rest?
Just a shell...

For I will never be old

I hope Captain James T. Kirk is part of your sigline, and not a comment on my poem, lol!

Ah, it's my pleasure!

I have to let the words out; if I don't, they make me crazier than I already am...:P

Thank you for reading!

Well, I thank you!

I think it's important to write something (or at least edit) every day...

When I do that, the pump stays primed and more words show up...

Some of them are even worth writing down, lol! :P

I hear you about this age disparity, sweetie...it's not much fun, is it?

12. I can certainly relate to The Shell
My shell was cracked open by my neurosurgeon earlier this year, but it is healing because, it is just a shell! :D

The operation did not take away my "me-ness."

16. My dear Pool Hall Ace!
I remember reading about your surgery! I'm so glad you're recovering well!

I am convinced that what makes us "us" isn't physical at all...

It's intangible, and basically untouchable...

Thanks for your comments!

20. Interestingly enough...
I wrote something about age, yesterday, too! This is a topic I've thought about a lot recently.

Did you ever see "The Torn Birds"? There is a line Barbara Stanwyck had....

It's at the end of this youtube clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24yQieBH5fo

Sometimes when I have thoughts like the ones in your poem, it reminds me of her line,
"Inside this stupid body I am still young..."

I saw the The Thorn Birds when I was 21 years old. Just tucked the thought away in the back of my mind... wondering if it's true. If I would feel that way when I became older. Unfortunately, it is.

Hang in there, Peggy. Like they say, the alternative isn't any better!

Oh, and thank you for sharing your poetry.

22. My dear Haole Girl...
Wow, what a powerful clip! I was enormously moved by seeing this...

And her words really are true...

The dichotomy of what we are physically, and how we feel emotionally can be devastating, and hard to reconcile, or to live with...

Thank you for sharing that!

And thank you for enjoying my little poem, too...

26. Wonderful poem Peggy
We all live in a shell.

I used to think my grandmother wore an "old person suit" with a zipper on the back I could slide down and she would step out young.

We are who we are and our shells don't reflect our inner selves.

Awesome...I loved it.
That is truly something that many women can relate to...
I have often wondered...
If I've moved through life in slo-mo, how did I ever get so old?x(

Aptly put...in beautiful poetry.
Sweet...

peace~

34. Very well, then...
My glass shall not persuade me I am old,
So long as youth and thou are of one date;
But when in thee time's furrows I behold,
Then look I death my days should expiate.
For all that beauty that doth cover thee,
Is but the seemly raiment of my heart,
Which in thy breast doth live, as thine in me:
How can I then be elder than thou art?
O! therefore love, be of thyself so wary
As I, not for myself, but for thee will;
Bearing thy heart, which I will keep so chary
As tender nurse her babe from faring ill.
Presume not on thy heart when mine is slain,
Thou gav'st me thine not to give back again.

- Shakespeare Sonnet XXII
