Poll question: Which is your LEAST favorite sport, of the five big ones in this country?
Mine's basketball--the one game I knew from childhood I could never compete in, given my 5 ft 6 stature...

1. Since soccer is not a big sport *duck*, I say hockey
Just a bunch of guys going back and forth as far as I can tell. Of course, this also describes soccer and basketball, which I also have no interest in.

That's news to me. For the poll I picked basketball, the NBA is a joke.

4. You need to take soccer out of there.
In this country, it is a children's game, not a major sport. Try Nascar. Maybe golf, if you are thinking psrticipation as opposed to spectators.

But it's not even a dislike about the sport, just a general "meh". My wife is a huge soccer fan however, and whenever FC Barcelona or InterMilan are on, I'll watch w/ her..

8. I think the NBA has a rule,
that if you make more than 2 million dollars a season,
that you won't be called for palming the ball,
or traveling.
The NBA is not a sport, it's a pinball machine.
200+ points scored in 1,2, and sometimes 3 point
increments.

14. The NBA did away with the traveling violation in the '80s
It also banned passing, defense and taking any shot inside the 3-point line that isn't a dunk.

11. For the actual sport, I would say soccer.
It is sooooooo incredibly boring. It a shit load of working the ball down the field just to have it go back the other way with nothing actually happening.

As for the entirety of the sport culture, I would say baseball. It is without a doubt the most pretentious sport in the US. Snobby fans that endlessly memorize stats for no fucking reason other than to impress other fans, out of shape players that could honestly make it through a whole game without moving, overly fetishized records , rampant cheating, a ridiculously drawn out series system that is only there to soak up cash, etc. It's about time America found a new "favorite sport".

20. Football especially college football, and particularly FSU Seminole football
Because the entire town shuts down when the Seminoles play whether or not the game is in town. And whatever is going on with the NCAA and the Seminoles, I hope they get kicked out of the conference and fire Bobby Bowden and shut the entire damn program down.

The only redeeming thing about Seminole football is the horse - and it is not a Seminole horse, it is a damn Appaloosa, a breed developed by the Nez Perce in f**king IDAHO! WTF is up with that?

Oh yeah, I HATE football.

I tolerate baseball on occasion, but LOVES football.

30. since TV has taken over and the games stop every three minutes for commercials
none of them are much fun anymore.
I like to watch college football, but only if there are 3 games on at once so I can flip back and forth and miss commercials.
Basketball especially college ball is a shadow of its pre-commercial days.
For watching purposes anymore I like to take in high-school soccer and basketball.
And I do look forward to the World cup where there are few commercials and play is continuous.

I watch NCAA hoops but I can only really get involved if my Illini are decent that year. Otherwise, basketball, meh.

Ironic, since I actually quite enjoy playing the game. I just couldn't care less about watching it played professionally.

55. Can't stand baseball... it bores me to tears
Then again, I'm Italian and I love calcio (a/k/a football, a/k/a soccer to ya'll) and definitely I'm a huge college basketball fan. To me, baseball is what soccer is to most Americans: boring. Unlike soccer, however, a baseball game is not over in 90 minutes.

Despite my love of basketball, I'm not so much an NBA fan. I think there is too much emphasis on the spectacular dunks rather than a good defense and good teamwork with lots of passing and working as a team.

I think that's the main reason why the U.S. team used to get beaten in international competition. In fact, many would argue that having a college ball coach as the U.S. team coach (won't mention names :) was a key in getting superstar players to play as a team and getting back on the winning track.
