Hellz yeah! I just found out I'm going to Brazil!
I'm part of the MLK scholars program at NYU. During our first two years we travel for a time during our winter break.. one year inside the country and one year outside. My first year will be international, and I just found out that our destination will be Brazil! :woohoo:

1. PLEASE double, even triple check, all documents required for Brazil
Just had a man have a major fiasco trying to get his daughter out of Brazil, as a minor, without both parents (didn't have the notarized affidavit).

Oh, and, congrats!! :hi: :loveya:

I'll try not to worry. Sorry. It was just one big huge mess, at work, I dealt with today. I didn't think the guy & his daughter would EVER make it out of Brazil!

It does sound like the trip of a lifetime. I'm happy you get to go. :hi:

Eu vivi no Brasil ya faz muito tempo, mais acho que voce vai gozar e aprender muito la.

Do you know where, Rio, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia? Bahia would be really, really nice.

Try to catch a Fla-Flu futebol match in Maracana Stadium if in Rio. Awesome.

Best of luck. :-)

Edit to correct verb "vivi"

I lived in Brazil a long time ago, but think you will enjoy and learn a lot there.

Best way to learn Portuguese is total immersion in Brazilian society. Brazilians will be happy to help you.

Boa sorte (Good luck) :hi:

12. Where will you be going?
I spent 2 years in Brazil in towns in Minas Gerais and Goias (a region I affectionately call the "Kansas of Brazil." It was hotter than hell on a Thursday Night, but the Brazilians are wonderful people.

Boa Sorte e se cuida.

41. YOu must, must, MUST go to Salvador, Bahia!
Often neglected by tourists in favor of Rio and Sao Paulo, but Salvador is the heart of the Brazilian experience! It's the original capital. Most of the architecture in the central historic district is from the 1600s. And if you want real authentic Brazilian culture (which is largely West African) in terms of music, food, fashion, literature, history, religion---there is no better place. And the beaches there are as lovely and hopping with activity as anywhere. Get sleep before you go, because you won't once you're there: in Bahia, they love the night life!

(Don't let the southern Brazilians convince you it's a backwater town - it's about the size of Chicago!)
