However my friendship was not limited to just those people. And some of those people have expressed quite nicely they aren't interested in my friendship anymore since it seems I'm not interested in taking any one side which leads me to believe how good of friends were they in the first place?

Why don't you understand that for some, the lounge hasn't been fun because of the atmosphere you are now fostering. That is the picking of sides, you are either with us or against us. If you are against the "cool kids" they will ridicule you and you will be the butt of their inside jokes.

Many people feel for the first time in a long time they can post in the lounge and have fun and not worry about stepping on toes or picking sides.

For infrequent posters/visitors the Lounge has a lost a certain degree of its anything goes zaniness/randomness, replaced by a bunch of in-jokes and oblique references to other DUers that completely fly over my head.

We are missing too many good DUers. The remaining people that I happen to think are witty and funny do not post near as often as they should. It seems like what is left are the "We got rid of them, how cool are we now?" threads and the occasional poetry thread that makes me want to claw my eyes out.
