I know I'm in the minority, and Brothers is definitely a fantastic album, with all the emotional undercurrent... but I have a soft spot for Making Movies.

28. I actually thought it was as well, but........
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon_(album)

<<Avalon, released in 1982, was Roxy Music's eighth (and, to date, final) studio album. Recorded in 1981-82 at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, it is generally regarded as the culmination of the smoother, more adult-oriented sound of the band's later work.>>

30. "So" by Peter Gabriel

<<So is the fifth studio album (and seventh album overall) by British rock musician Peter Gabriel, released in 1986. Many of its songs reflect a more conventional pop-writing style and became radio hits, others still retain Gabriel's dark, brooding sense of experimentalism.>>

My personal favorite -- "Don't Give Up" (with special guest Kate Bush)

'Zen Arcade' gets hyped so much that, even though it's the better album overall, I had to choose this one. And "Celebrated Summer" is just an amazing song:

Edited on Wed Jul-01-09 03:16 AM by abq e streeter
to Meet Me ,and Tim....REM--Reckoning, Fables of the Reconstruction and Life's Rich Pageant...Paul Simon--Graceland...Talking Heads-Little Creatures, Stop Making Sense and especially Speaking in Tongues...The Blasters-- Non Fiction ,and Blasters...Sting--Dream of the Blue Turtles...The Clash-Sandinista, and yeah Combat Rock (I suppose) too....Springsteen -The River and Born in the USA, even though they're far from his best....Los Lobos,- By the Light of the Moon and How Will the Wolf Survive....The Alarm--Strength.....and a Jesus and Mary Chain EP (having a brain fart on its title...)James McMurtry-Too Long in the Wasteland....Robert Cray-Bad Influence, Joe Ely-Hi-Res, and Lord Of the Highway, Cyndi Lauper-She's So Unusual, Terrance Trent D'Arby--The Hard Line According To ........... couldn't narrow it down any more than these ( jeez--what did I list here, about 2 dozen? at least--but a lot of great albums I couldn't leave out); but I'd have to pick Speaking in Tongues and More Fun in the New World as the 2 best, with Non Fiction , Bad Influence and Hard Line... right up there too.

34. Violent Femmes, eponymous debut
I'm genuinely mystified that this album rarely makes any "Best of" lists.

Sure, there's nothing groundbreaking musically on it but it just oozes attitude and that's what rock and roll is all about

39. I'll post what I believe to be one of the most influential albums of all time
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_sRcdSGnaBYc/SMQkgsLG-iI/AAAAAAAAGKw/NDdGHiflWEI/s320/COVER+Front.jpg

I defy you to find a bad song on this album. Elements of Punk, Jazz, Ska, High Life, and Reggae fused in a frantic mess. Lyrically, a masterpiece covering topics such as society, war, Reagan era politics, and personal demons.

You may hate the band. That's fine. It's all opinion. But understand that this album went out of print in the 90s and so many artists, like No Doubt and Primus, made reference to this album they decided to put it back on the shelves.

but, yeah... 'Nothing to Fear' is the better album.

I'm not fit to polish Vatos Hernandez's cymbals.

44. Screaming for Vengeance
It isn't actually my favorite Judas Priest album--but it is the one that forever knocked AC/DC out my my stereo and gave me something to focus on.

I'll steal a page from Symarip's post and note that the lyrical content is much more significant than people generally give Priest credit for. They discuss intrusive snooping destroying privacy, the threat of nuclear war, personal demons and redemption. Plus a few just about cutting your own groove (certainly Rob Halford's most frequently recurring topic.)

And the guitar work just smokes. Highlights would be Electric Eye, Riding on the Wind Acreaming for Vengeance, Fever and Devil's Child.
