My 6-Year Old Doesn't Have A Middle Name
Long story, but he was born in Holland, and his mother and I struggled to come up with an acceptable name that would sound equally normal in our sleepy little village in the Netherlands and back home in America. We settled on "Alexander".

Due in large part to the fact that certain herbs are completely legal and accessible in Holland, we failed to give Alexander a middle name.

Now that we're back stateside (and somewhat more clear-headed), we have decided to give him the opportunity to choose his OWN middle name in commemoration of his 7th birthday in August. Last night, he told us he had decided what his new middle name will be.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce to you:

ALEXANDER SPONGEBOB PETERSEN

Something tells me this isn't going to turn out well....

1. Oh, go for it!
 At least it's better than Bernard. Not that I dislike my middle name, just that there's no story behind it. :)

No idea where THAT middle name came from either.

4. Spongebob is a better name than Cookie Monster or Barney
Well, at least no one will forget his name.

5. At least he didn't choose M-A-Y-E-R
Thankfully that commercial is nowhere near as common as it once was.

6. his choice, of course, but personally, I like more formal middle names.

7. That was cute. I'll speak with Alexander's mother...
She's an old-fashioned girl...I think this may strike the right balance for her.

;-)

8. I don't have a middle name either...
... but we're running through a naming exercise for our upcoming child. My son's coming up with all kinds of names connected with Star Wars...

And yes, he also did suggest spongebob...

9. My wife never got a middle name, and she's still pissed about it
"Spongebob" is better than NMI in my opinion.

However, "Petronius" would be even better - let me talk to the kid for a minute...

:)
