114 degrees today
Palm Springs is no joke, yet I love it. However...I'm not sure how people can actually live here.

:B-)

1. Yesterday it was 101 in parts of Illinois.
Upper nineties for the last week or two here in the southern part. Today it was upper eighties and we celebrated.

Sorry that it is so hot where you live but I'll bet it is more interesting where you are.

2. You visiting?
I lived near PS; graduated from Redlands High... not quite as hot, but in the 110+ range much of the summer. I was in track when I lived near the beach; my parents for some infernal reason moved inland and that was the end of track for moi. Kaput.

However, I *love* Palm Springs. Miss it a lot.

6. I'm still waiting for someone to explain the big draw of
Palm Springs, especially to those already living nearby? Not hot enough, in the Inland Empire?

9. For, me the desert heat is one draw.
I love 100+ temps, and find the desert landscape very appealing.

The town is a very gay-friendly, liberal oasis in a mostly conservative county.

Best of all, it has some of the coolest, most abundant mid-century/modern homes of anywhere I have ever been. I'm a huge enthusiast of such architecture and Palm Springs boasts many Alexander homes with butterfly roofs, still in original condition. For mid-century modern enthusiasts, Palm Springs is the town that time forgot, and in many neighborhoods, it still looks like it's 1958. Plus, the vibe there is very laid back, cool, and the moment you deplane in Palm Springs, you feel all your stress dissipate. It has the most beautiful airport I have ever seen, and you kind of slip back in time...almost expecting to run into members of the rat pack sipping a martini somewhere. It's kitschy, nostalgic, and to me, just lovely.

8. I got married in Palm Springs.
Was just there last week - it was only 104. I love that town like nothing else. Never had a problem with the heat, in fact I can't get enough of it. You live in one of my favorite places on earth - and I could very well actually live there. :-)

12. Oh I don't live there...
I live in San Diego. But for some reason the feeling of a hair dryer blowing in my face appeals to me.
