2. Keep those virus definition files updated!

If your anti-virus software supports it, make sure to enable scanning of incoming/outgoing e-mail. That will eliminate probably 99% of the viruses you receive via e-mail.

Also, if your virus software misses it, and you receive an attachment with the extension of PIF or SCR, you probably have just received a virus. Delete the e-mail. The best rule of thumb is to assume any e-mail that comes with an attachment is infected with a virus.

I cannot speak for McAfee, but I use Norton Anti-Virus, and it's worked very well (for me). I've only had one infection, and that was due to stupidity on my part.
