My new job, my first articles!
I guess it's been almost a month since I got a job writing for a publication. Online, it's a site that's building a following in a wide variety of areas, and I've been assigned to Boston "Classic TV" examiner. I've started off with some real basic stuff, and I'll be then doing some ground work on popular shows from the past. I will also endeavor to devote part of my column to questions and answers from readers. What I don't know (which isn't much that I don't know), I know where to go to get the information.

Please feel free to visit my webpage from Examiner.com, and comment on my current columns--they're not very exciting but contain some solid information to the general public--a foundation to build on.

2. how cool
I didn't realize Man from UNCLE was on DVD.

The man who plays Ducky on NCIS starred in that, didn't he?

Congrats on your job, what a wonderful job to have. I did enjoy your articles.

and yes, David McCallum played Illya Kuryakin on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. as well as Dr. Mallard! There was one episode of NCIS where one of the characters--I think it was Ziva--asked Gibbs what did "Ducky" look like when he was younger, and Gibbs said, "Illya Kuryakin."

I didn't realize I would also be designing or finding my own images on my pages, but it's okay, since I've working with graphic design for a long time as well. It also gives me freedom to pick and choose what I want to use and jazz up.

At least I can handle the column on my own schedule. I did notice a typo I hadn't caught in one of the columns--I'm going to have to scour future columns for that kind of stuff more than once I think, in order to catch errors.

6. You need to ask a friend to read your writing for you to check for
typos. Since you are so close to it, you cannot find them all.

:hi:

7. Here's a tip I've used in the past:
For some weird reason, I'd let slip some obvious typos when proofing stuff on the screen.

You know what worked for me, but don't know if it's feasible in your situation: print out a copy of your article/column, walk away from the computer, and go over it word for word with a pen. Mistakes tend to really pop out at you.

Congrats on the new gig. Sounds like a lot of fun!

3. That's terrific. I was thinking of applying myself but I don't know that I'm an expert at anything

That was cool to see your article on RetroTV. Just ran into that station by accident last night and I was wondering what the heck it was. Unfortunately, when I ran into it the shows were cheesy old scifi, Buck Rogers and BSG.

9. Thanks, all!
I've done a couple of new articles, and will likely be doing about one a day or at the very least, every day and a half. I've already started the task of ideas for the column, and more arise as I move forward.

One of the things I've been trying to do is to familiarize my devoted public (:)) to some of the business type stuff and why there were so many shows cancelled, even if they are/were popular. People must understand that tv is, first and foremost, a business, and not there merely to get our attention. It does help to have an audience, of course, but the key is getting the right audience!

So look for some dry, business columns as well as discussions on TV shows from the earlier years of television. I have a personal preference for dramas, but I do still enjoy some comedies, just not very many of the ones most people enjoyed. :P

Gotta go--I have some writing to do!
