3. Thankfully the craz is ending
it's all about that Vampire guy now. I never thought I'd be happy about Mormon vampires, but the Jonas Brothers need to never be on my tv again.

They're like Hanson but with more god, gross.

5. They're not awful, they just have no soul and it's a shitty time for music.
They're not awful, they just have no soul and it's a shitty time for music.

My daughter's 13, so I've heard them more than once, but specifically yesterday on the Today Show (I slept in until they woke me up) and today on NPR. They're not without talent, but they don't have enough life experience to have any soul (they're kind of like a bad cover of Janis Joplin in that regard) and they've come to fruition during a period in the music industry in which emo/screamo bands reign, so they no matter how much they want to "grow," they can't get beyond what's popular de rigeur and just make their own music (assuming they even know what their own music is).

I met them about a year and a half ago while I was eating a chili dog with my daughter at Disneyland. It was near the employee entrance, where there was a quiet spot to sit and eat. My kid began freaking out (at first I thought she was choking) before I found out it was some Biz-ney group I'd never ehard of. I went over, introduced myself, got them to come over and sign autographs. Utterly charming young men, what the Beatles must have been like when they were 15.

Ever since then all I can think when I hear the Jonas Brothers is, "Wow, I can't wait until these guys find their Bob Dylan." A few months smoking weed and a couple of acid trips, and the Jonas Brothers could be a real band. But son't tell my daughter I said that.

17. Actually, I think it's a pretty good time for music
The mid-late 90s was a down point instead IMO. But there has always been good stuff.

Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 02:45 AM by RFKHumphreyObama
As much as I greatly respect and admire your very diverse and interesting tastes in music. And of course I respect your opinion on this as well and this is just my opinion

But IMO the mid-to-late 90s, while perhaps not quite living up to the first half of the decade or the decade preceding it, was a great time for music nonetheless. I can remember listening to and enjoying several good artists and hits back then. From about 2003 onward, however, I think the standard started declining and it hasn't recovered since for me -save for a brief period from late 2004 to mid-to-late 2005

That's fine - I understand. :hi: I appreciate the kind words! You know I highly respect your views, too.

What bothered me in the 90s were the boy bands and Britney-copies, and I wasn't even a fan of Britney though she does have some great songs - and In The Zone is pretty consistent. Country music started to sound a little alike. Hip hop was also big, and nu-metal was starting - both of which I don't like.

Nowadays, there's more of a power pop sound in some of the pop, and a lot of good indie artists, lesser known pop artists, and singer songwriters. Today's music just suits my taste more in spite of the emo/screamo, still strong hip hop scene, and Nickelback-like rock.

6. My kids and wife like them
Some of their music is good, some it is mediocre, and some is pretty awful. Really not that much different than most artists. Not one of the groups I'm in to by any stretch of the imagination but they're certainly not insufferable as "teeny bop" music goes, really.

No double entendre there folks, just foam......

(p.s. you can look at them spraying the audience with white foam on youtube if you want.... lower the sound though, girls screeching) they really did do this. It wasn't something made up by Southpark....

Mickey: What's all this I'm hearing about not wearing the purity rings, haha?

Kevin: We... need to talk about something.

Mickey: Oh boy! I just love flying all the way to Colorado to hear about your problems, haha.

Joe: Look, we just want our concerts to be about our music, and not about purity rings.

Mickey: Oh gosh, fellas, let me explain this to you one more time. You have to wear the purity rings because that's how we can sell sex to little girls, haha. See, if we make the posters with little girls reaching for your junk, then you have to wear purity rings or else Disney Company looks bad, haha.

19. Exactly.
I very much enjoyed watching the Beastie Boys at Bonnaroo earlier this evening from a post on DU. Don't care for these Jonas Brothers BUT I know that music creates a happy, enjoyable environment when folks can embrace and like it. Would never take that away, like anything else.

Though I think we could have one helluva flamewar about it? Takers?

I kid.

23. They Have About A Year Or So.
Then, they have to make that turn. They have to make a truly good album or become a "Whatever Happen To..."/VH1 story. Christina Aguilera made the turn with "I Am Beautiful". Justin Timberlake made the turn. Even Britney made the turn.

The problem with having 12 year old girls as your main audience is that they grow older and want better music.

30. I've only heard a few of their songs...
and I don't like them. I love pop music but the Jonas Brothers' music just isn't enjoyable to me. I prefer the previous round of boy bands (Backstreet Boys, N Sync) since their songs were at least catchy. The Jonas Brothers won't be popular too much longer. Boy bands have a short shelf life so the Jonas Brothers probably only have a few more years of popularity left.
