I have *always* loved this song - for some reason it sends me immediately back to my childhood in San Juan Capistrano, California (though I was only 8 when it first came out). But until I recently looked for it on Youtube, I had no idea whose song it was.

So yes, I am way lame. I admit it. But I loooove this song (I think it's the saxophone, honestly): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgbGaYTkkPU

As well as "Right Down the Line": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvyD3QlU22o

I'd forgotten about these songs until I caught a snip of "Baker Street" on the radio a little while ago. Anyone else have music they love but had forgotten about?

Wrote an essay in HS about the song. Got a "D".

Yes. Class of 79!

I thought the teacher would like it. She had us write about the Eagles "Hotel California" earlier in the year!

:wtf:

On edti: Thanks for the earworm!!!!

The teacher had you write an essay about the Eagles?

She truly deserved public flogging...................

I think I still have an eagles "the band" cd.

28. Well, my family is from west central PA, and my Dad
is a diehard Steelers/Pirates fan. Our family history is from eastern PA in the early 1730's (Berks County) and then to west central PA in the mid 1840's.

And yes, JoePa is a legend in PA.

31. I'm a coalcracker,
Schuylkill County, but a Keystone Stater through and through. You can never shake that stuff.

People don't understand, a lot of the time, what a big and remarkably diverse place PA is.

(Don't tell, but I still have a secret crush on Franco Harris)

Remember, during the primaries, when Sarah Palin came on stage at a rally someplace in NW PA, right after the Series, and bleated, "How 'bout them Phillies!"

I loved that.

Here's to ya...............

Jefferson County, PA.

My dad's cousin still lives there, but I think most of the family is gone now.

And I'm watching this "clean coal" nonsense, remembering what our coal-burning furnace and the "bucket-a-day" (a hot water heater that took a bucket of coal per day) did to the air in our house.................

some artists do that for me, as well. Can't think of who, right off the bat, but still, I know the feeling.

Any idea why you don't like him?

15. I don't know -- it's just visceral
I don't know if it's the voice, or just hearing Baker Street, on average, once a day for 20 years.

I've had that reaction to a couple of others - most notably John Fogarty. Especially that "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play" song -- like nails on a chalkboard.

And I love CCR. But if that damn song comes on I can't change the station fast enough! lol! I also admit to a very strong loathing of Bon Jovi.

27. I can't reconcile that the singer of "Who'll Stop the Rain" also sung that dreck
Another one I can't stand is Barry Mannilow. This presents somewhat of a problem, as Mrs. OBD is a fan of Barry.

I have a favorite mix CD in the car that's framed by Baker Street...the original Gerry Rafferty track at the beginning, with the Foo Fighters version at the end.

The Foo Fighters are probably the best rock band left.

13. Interesting. Thanks for the link....
not a bad cover at all! Doesn't send me back, of course, and that's one of the appeals of Rafferty's song is that I am instantly transported to a happy time in my life, but still very much worth listening to. Have to admit to not knowing much of the Foo Fighters' work, so I appreciate the education.

21. It was a "loving anti-Rafferty version," if that makes any sense...
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 10:23 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...because the spoke on the wheel of the original was Raphael Ravenscroft's sax solo, which the Foos approximate without sax, because if they'd hired a sax player to do a note-for-note of the original, they'd be American Idol dweebs and not the Foo Fighters.

That's why I have both versions on the same CD.

Whenever I discover (or rediscover, in this case) something/someone I like, I research it/them to death. Saw the blurb on Wikipedia a little while ago. Sounds like he's just lost.
