Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 07:09 PM by Lorax7844
before

now with real moss carpeting, nice rock, bark, and sticks

She likes her swimming pool

and her sunning rock

I think this picture looks like it could be the forest floor

set up with UVB lamp

Hopefully this is a picture of a happy turtle, her name is Shelby and I hope we have her for a long time.

1. Nothing in the world cuter than turtles!
Nothing.

The Earth's karma has benefited immeasurably from your actions.

she almost drown in a swimming pool, my brother saved her and after seeing her we knew we had a new member of the family. Hopefully she likes us. She is eating well, lots of wax worms.

4. is she a turtle or a tortoise?
if it's a tortoise, you've got a great set up (maybe a little deeper water; enough for her to submerge in once in a while). I can't really tell which she is from those pics, I'm no expert, but if she is a turtle she should have a lot more water (like at least half).

Still, either way, you've taken a great deal of care with her so far, and I think she'll do fine. Good luck!

she is a land turtle, she can swim but unlike most turtles she does not have webbed feet.

I'm not a.... turtleologist.... so I wasn't sure. I work in a pet store, but we usually only carry tortoises.

9. I LOVE turtles and tortoises!
I had a box turtle once for awhile, but I didn't have a very satisfactory terrarium for him at the time so I had to find another home for him. I thought he was a cool critter, though.

How did you figure out that Shelby is a girl?

10. with the eastern box turtle
males have red or bright orange eyes, females have brownish yellow eyes. Also even if you can't see it in the pictures if you flip her over her tummy is flat, males have a tummy that is concave, for um... mounting.

12. Interesting!
You certainly have created a lovely home for her. Maybe someday you can find a turtle with a concave tummy so she can have a cute little turtley boyfriend.

15. I'm thinking about it, not sure
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 11:21 PM by Lorax7844
there numbers are not as great as they have been but they are low priority on the endangered species chart.

I sound like I know what I am talking about, but it's all stuff I found on the internet. Once I knew what type of turtle she was, it was easy after that. Wikipedia is a lifesaver. ;)

shower me with compliments. Till then I have to figure out what the hell to do for hibernation, if anyone here has any suggestions about how to deal with an inside turtle and the winter months please, please, please let me know.
