For years I couldn't touch the stuff. I can eat it now and find it good on occasion but it's still not my favorite fruit. And I'm a fruit fanatic.

I never used to avoid it. In fact, when I was younger, I loved it. Then, about a week after I graduated from high school, I made myself a bologna and cheese sandwich with some bologna that, evidently, was no longer ripe. The result: awful food poisoning for about four days.

I haven't touched the stuff since.

I've spent a lot of time overseas in various places, so I've eaten a lot of strange stuff. Rice beetles, scorpions, snake, chicken feet, sea urchin and its roe. And on and on. Some stuff is better than others. I happen to think tofu is pretty vile, but I can gag it down. Tripe? No way. I realize a lot of Hispanics think that menudo is just great; I don't. The French also eat tripe; I love French cooking - haute cuisine, bourgeois, it's all great. But tripe just sucks. I won't eat it.

I used to eat them all the time. Then one day I opened a can that didn't taste right. I figured it was a fluke at first, but the next time I bought a can they tasted just as bad.

Then I looked at the can, which said "Product of India", and thought WTF? I could probably grow my own that would taste better than this. Well, I haven't tried that yet, but I enjoy fresh mushrooms from the organic market a lot more than those nasty, rubbery things in a can. It's worth the extra money.

I just don't like the taste. And when someone says "But this one doesn't taste like fish!" they're delusional. All fish tastes like fish. That includes sushi (if that really needs to be said).
:puke:

But I do like shellfish, including crawfish. Go figure.

I won't eat any organs--liver, stomach, etc.--haggis, scrapple--or brains.

I say no to okra (slimy) and Brussels sprouts (dusty).

And although I used to like it, I won't eat veal on principle.

Won't--and can't--eat soy; my thyroid doesn't like it.

I guess that leaves me a few things I can still eat! :D

A Korean family lives across the hall from my bf and sometimes I have to leave his place because of the smells seeping through his wall from their place. The smells, the crap they leave in the hall, and their kids screaming in his dog's face every time they see it . . . I'm hoping they decide to move to a bigger place :-(

I just hate the feel of them in my mouth.

The funny thing is, I have no problems w/ prunes. The difference could be that I don't usually put a whole prune in my mouth, and of course, it's silly to take a bite out of a raisin.

The taste is different too, obviously.

..since that's not part of my diet. For the stuff I can eat but simply won't, mayonnaise has to be number 1. Really slimy and disgusting stuff! As for non-processed botanical food, I don't like kumquats, marmalade, many varieties of squash (although cukes and eggplant--yummy. Those who named that as gross don't know what they're missing!) or sour cream.

Those people who don't like: Pickles, ice cream, chocolate, guacamole or asparagus are just sad! Tell you what: I'm happy to eat your share in the world!

Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 03:32 AM by Quantess
As a kid in the 1970s, I had to eat cheddar cheese on wheat bread, when ALL the other kids ate bologna on WONDER BREAD. Life was so unfair!

This was about the time that I snagged cold hot dogs straight out of the package and scarfed them down, thinking they tasted good. I was 6 years old.

124. I hear you on meat and commercial white bread
As a former artisan baker, I can't stand Wonder "bread" and its ilk. I suppose I'd eat it if I had to, but I don't consider it food really.

I also can't stand most fast food. Subway is edible if I am on a road trip or something, and the occasional french fry, but... yuk. And every time I even consider it, when I do try to eat it I remember why I can't stand it.

116. I am a picky eater and my list is long...
Certain textures turn my stomach such as oysters, sushi, clams, beans, mushrooms and anything squishy.
I won't eat ice cream or candy if it has nuts in it. I don't like the two textures together...weird, I know. I love nuts alone, but only walnuts, pecans or peanuts. I won't eat pistachios or cashews.

I can't eat salads as it tastes like lawn to me. I will eat some cooked veggies and broccoli is my favorite with asparagus being a close second. I will not eat any canned veggies as I can taste the metal.

The only fish I will eat is perch and I have to force it, although I love lobster, shrimp and blue crabs. I was over 35 when I tried blue crabs with Phillips Seasoning and LOVED IT!

No mayo, no mustard, but ketchup is okay.
No Mexican food, no Thai food, and actually no foods from other countries except for Italian.
I will eat sweet and sour Chinese food and love the sauce and also Duck Sauce on the ribs.

It is embarrassing to be this way, but I have met far worse picky eaters in my life.
The horror shows of horror shows was the one where people had to eat insects and other gross stuff. I was retching watching the tv and had to turn the channel.
If you really wanted me to list the things I would not eat, I would be on here until noon.

Needless to say, I rarely accept dinner invitations.

in one of those "I'm gonna gag if I put real milk in my coffee" moods, but there's something about the texture of soy milk that I don't like -- chalky or something. But there also something I don't like about the texture of real milk. Of all milk, I like Carnation powdered milk best (I know, I know: YUCK) but I've never seen it sold here.
