Ballgame if possible. One of the great parks. The Ferry building, great farmers market, great stores etc. All food related.
Irish Cofee Buena Vista Inn. (Ghirardeli Square area). If you must go to the wharf (and the crab is more expesnive here than anywhere) have a bowl of soup. Hop on a cable car and head for North Beach. Vesuvio. The Beat Museum. City Lights. Steps of Rome (do not under any circumstances eat at the Stinking Rose), Rose Pistola are all nice. If you are into a great old school funky burger, Sams is here. the greasiest of the greasy spoons. take in Broadway and the sex clubs etc... Walk or Cable down to Chinatown and check out the artier shops. Some of the carvings are exquisite (and yes some are ivory and wrong but they are stunning). Check out Sammy Woo's. weird little place, gotta enter thru the kitchen and go uptairs to the dining room. but you can bring your own beer and wine with no corkage.
Then down to union Square and probably your hotel> All kinds of upscale shopping, neiman, macys, bloomies etc all in about 5 blocks. the best Ross store ever is down here too.
Golden gate park is wonderful and if you can go to the De Young museum.
By the park is haight street and if you are into weirdness and real time flashbacks, then take a trip here. The Pork Store is an excellent place to eat.
In the Lower haight is a one block section of SF that is my favorite block in the city. A great bar, Tornado, that has zillions of beers, Rosamunde Sausages that are incredible and the best ten dollar meal in SF, and Memphis Minnies BBQ that is scrumptous.
When you are on the cable cars be sure to ride on the outside on the side of the traffic lane. unforegettable.
you can ride the elevators at the hotels and take some great shots from up there too.
