Okay, so why is it called a "BB gun?"
So what does the "BB" stand for? I mean, why not just "B gun?" And if it were called a "B gun," would it be inferior in quality to an "A gun?" And why were on the subject, why do we take the "A Train" and not the "AA Train?"

I'm all confused about this...

2. BB = ball bearing.
That is, if you really wanted to know, and weren't just being a wise-ass.

6. But ball bearings come in different sizes...

They're not always the little ones one would normally associate with a BB gun...

7. BB gun ball bearings are generally .177 caliber.
There are some exceptions, but they aren't seen much anymore.

3. BB is the shot size - there is actually a shotgun shell loaded with BB's.
I have no idea what it would be used for, but I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of one....

8. Birdshot
So why would someone shoot a rat with a BB gun? I'd prefer a .22 myself...

16. Deer? Christ, you could hunt moose, bear and even cars with one of those.
The occasional truck wouldn't be safe, either.

'Course, ammo would be the eventual problem. Unless you "load your own" (which would still be problematic), you couldn't exactly go down to WalMart....

19. M-79. But it's better for fishing than hunting
But grenades are hard to find. Even at a gun show.

12. I've heard of specail smoothbore .22s made for handling .22 shells loaded with shot.
Farmers around here used to use them against rats in their barns, and they also used to use them out west against rattlesnakes.
