What horror movie scared you as a kid?
Inspired by PT,s thread.

Nightmare on Elm Street. Just watching the commercial for it scared me. Used to watch SNL at my buddies house and I would walk home at night alone after. That commercial came on, that night I friggin' ran the whole back, I mean ran like the dickens.(Is that a Midloism? "Ran like the Dickens"?) It was years latter before I could even watch the movie.

15. A young coworker (about 23) heard me talking about and rented it from Netflix
Edited on Sun Jun-14-09 06:39 PM by LostinVA
She told me after she watched it,"That was really cheesy and fake looking, but it scared the hell out of me. I made my BF turn on all the lights in the house, even in the closets."

2. The original Amityville Horror scared the shit out of me.
I had already read the book, which convinced me that my house was also haunted. Then I saw the movie. Bad move. I think I was like 10 at the time.

7. It's funny, that's the one they always used as "proof".
Isn't that the one that's cited most for being "true".

11. They're about 50/50.
They've had lots of mediums and stuff go through there, as well as folks that have been there supporting the story. Then there have been an equal number that think it's hogwash.

But yeah, it's allegedly true.

22. Yes...I saw this during its first run. I think I was 14.
It was playing at the best theatre in town. There was a line that went on for what seemed like miles. I waited about 3 hours. That movie scared the shit out me and whenever I hear the song "Tubular Bells", I feel creepy.

14. Puppet Masters III scared the $hit out of me as a kid
there is a scene where a couple is having sex and the woman hears a noise under the bed and of course looks. There she's met with the puppet with the rotating screw on his head... bye bye woman. Scared the hell out of me. I was afraid to let my feet get anywhere near under the bed, so I'd take flying leaps onto the bed. Did this for a month, lol!

28. I don't think I ever saw any of those
Maybe the first one. It seems like sex scenes back then were a little more provacative. When we first got HBO, I think I was 10, I was both completely shocked and delighted at the amount of gratutious nudity and sex they provided.

30. The original Dracula and Night Of The Living Dead
It's still one of the ten best all-time horror films, period. No wonder Bela Lugosi wanted to be buried in the cape (he was). In the "Plan Nine Companion" documentary on the Plan Nine From Outer Space DVD, there's some old interview footage (while he was still healthy and at the height of his career) in which he describes the role as a "blessing and a curse."

Pretty much all of the old Universal black & white horror films PLUS Night Of The Living Dead were the ones that got to me.

N.O.T.L.D. used to get pretty regular screenings on Bob Wilkins' "Creature Features" show, originating in Oakland CA. There was something about watching that movie after dark on a Saturday night that was AMAZING...even WITH commercials, in the pre-VHS, pre-DVD says.

:toast:

31. "The Birds'
Not sure if one would classify that movie as horror, but boy that was scary to me. It still freaks me out a bit to be around a large gathering of birds. And Dracula was another one. I laid awake at night ready to literally kill any vampire who tried to suck my blood.

36. All of them scared the fuck out of me.
I had to cover my face with my hands during the commercials, I couldn't watch any of the actual movies. I remember the Chucky movies scared me the most because of the whole doll coming to life thing.

Now I love horror movies and they don't scare me at all.

Lots of axe murders with an axe going through the head of a doll at the very end (but it looked like a child to me).
