My husband brought another fig tree home last week.
That makes four fig trees--two planted in the yard, two in pots. One dwarf lemon tree. One weirdo dwarf mimosa. A bonsai fir of some kind. (Six grapevines, two tomato plants, one herb garden, and a partridge in a pear tree--scratch that--no pear tree. I don't want to give him ideas. A potato, bee balm, some basil, and a couple fennel plants. Enough--unless I want to do another window box of herbs.) When I got home from work, knowing it was his day off, I honestly scanned the backyard before going upstairs to the kitchen to say "hello,"--just to see if he got a new tree.

We have a row house. Our lawn is small. I like being an urban farmer--but too many trees is too many trees. I know some families collect cats or other stray critters--anyone else find that they attract stray trees?

1. I wish!
oh wait, maybe that is why I have a grape, two blueberry bushes, an olive, a peach, a lime, an apple, and some mulberry thing still in pots?

9. My first garden ever was pot
I gave it up after the first season because I just didn't want to get busted.I still had the urge to grow something so now I grow big, huge, mammoth sunflowers. Then I harvest the heads, dry them and slap them on top of the drying line and watch the birds and squirrels go nuts over them all winter.

I've got three Salvia nemerosa, four Salvia greggii, a few gaillardias, some Salvia "victoria blue," some Maximilian sunflowers, a nepeta, a peach tree, a centranthus, an elderberry, a willow bush, and a few other things in pots, and then I'm done. :P

7. We have a row house, too - we have a large fig tree that has been
producing great organic figs for years now, several blueberry bushes just starting to get good beries this year. We grow vegies and herbs in pots on the patio and lots of plants and shrubs in the garden.
We took out all the grass and just mulched the whole yard.

Wanna buy a lawnmower?
